Cherry gose

Pours with a haze, amber in colour. Prevailing head retention, fragrant cherry on the nose and lactos bacillus zing identified. This cherry gose has got me salivating!

It’s tart with fresh cherry on the primary. On the secondary, some depth comes through, finishing on a zingy note. This one is tart and puckery.

Fresh cherry coming through mostly, this would be a good summer beer. Would pair with a thyme infused pork dish, or a handful of pistachios as a starter.

Chestnut Pilsner

This was delicious! Never usually touch a Pilsner first, but I found it was sweet, sessionable, with a crisp finish.

The Wurst and Stein Beer hall was a dream too. Really nice location, cosy and cute. Amazing food and reasonably priced beverage deals. The meals were massive and although no German beer (thanks corona), there was a solid selection of craft beers on tap.

It was an ongoing joke that I kept on coming back for steins across a few days to gather my ‘tasting notes’. Still didn’t get any in the end 😅

Okinawa sour blonde ale

Citrus nose and lactos bacillus funk. The shikuwasa fruit, unfamiliar, but seems to come through as a citrus taste on the primary. General sour hit too, lots of traditional sour vibes. Secondary is a sharper citrus hit, with a high buzzing carbonation. The residual malt slightly lingers after.

This one sticks out in the store, with an interesting bio and an eye catching can design

Imperial Pineapple Sour and Imperial Mango Sour

Both of these imperials were true to their respective fruit on the nose, as well as both were super smashable.

Hope Estate have a really interesting range of limited batch sour beers and have well and truly jumped onto the sour wave. Very cool.

Feeling some Hunter region pride 🥰

Senor Spicy 🌶 🌶🌶

Jalapeño-style chilli spice. Haze. The nose has a pickle overtone with the spicy boi scale sitting at a mild reading. This beer is approachable and would be a good beginner level to intermediate sour beer, for those wanting to be a little more adventurous.

I love a chilli beer, and this would pair with sweet and smoky pulled pork, a bowl of tex-mex spiced chips, or anything with a side of guac.

Dare I say, this could even be smashable as a breakfast beer. Like, first one of the session. Don’t mix it in 5 IPAs deep. That would be irresponsible 😅

The Wheelman - Raspberry Gose
collaboration with

This Raspberry Gose is delicious! 10s across the board.

Strong raspberry jam on the nose, with prevailing head retention. Another blush hazy pour, this smells really fruity and sweet.

High carbonation tingles on the primary, with a tart raspberry taste. Pilsner malt is recognised on the secondary, with the distinct sweetness of wheat following. The finish is wheat and honey.

Not a super lip puckering sour beer, so really approachable as a beginner sour. Would pair with vanilla ice cream, as this tastes like a dessert.

Not Your Average Plum Gose

Mismatch Brewing Co’s cellar door release is made with davidson plum, a native Australian plum with a distinct acidic, earthy taste.

The beer pours with a blush hue. It’s on the hazy. Very pretty.

Prevailing head retention with a mild nose. Primary is acidic, with earthy vibes of the Davidson plum coming through on the secondary. This is unlike any gose I’ve ever had. The finish is delicate, with some pine and resinous qualities.

This is a unique brew and for the adventurous beer drinkers out there, placing it with the intermediate sours, because of the acquired taste. In addition, use the code KATIELAYCOCK, and follow the link https://beerthrone.com/?ref=0vz66ilhtk7 to get 15% off craft beer threads!

Pine Lime Sour Ale

Pine lime splice on the nose! Nostalgic feels right there.

The tasting is a short trip, with tinned pineapple coming through on the primary, and in the secondary; lime juice trickled over pineapple. The finish is fruity and tingly.

Fuzzy feeling on the tongue coming through from those pineapple notes, but overall really easy drinking.

I’ve now tried a few of Nomad Brewing’s sour beers, and they all have proven to be unique and outstanding. Really impressed.

Black Magic - Salt and Pepper Squid Ink Gosebeer and

I love weird and unusual brews. From the get go, this beer grabs you; the can design (those metallic accents yo), the way the beer pours (is it a dark sour?! Is it a porter?!), the unusual ingredients listed (samphire, kelp, saltbush with Javan pepper and squid ink?!). Everything about this beer demands attention.

With ocean saltiness on the nose and a deep brown/black colour, the squid ink gose has medium head retention and a noticeable depth with agitation.

It has a primary similar to the nomad brewing co’s salt and pepper gose, that I’ve had before. Salty and high carbonation hits the palette first up, followed by a tingling black pepper that lingers with what I imagine/faintly remember squid ink tastes like.

The only difference would be the subtle ocean vibes of the samphire, kelp and saltbush trio on the secondary come through.

The squid ink is a visual showstopper, with the blank slate of a salt and pepper gose providing approachability as a beginner sour, with an even more approachable 8 IBU rating.

Salt and pepper sours have outstanding drinkability and would pair well fish and chips!

Mulberry and Cherry Dark Sour

You know when you try to write a review then end up getting inebriated instead. This happened twice, on two separate occasions, while trying to review this beer 😂 with a 6.4% alcohol content, it does the job well.

This is a dark sour, with low carbonation and a rich, fruit-heavy nose. The primary taste is mulberry with a background of dark stone fruits, giving off fruit roll-up vibes. Secondary, the cherry comes through. The beer is super drinkable, tart and tasty. Goes down really well by itself.
