Look at this little face.⁠

This stage lasts days, not weeks. One minute they're tiny and new and the next they're a toddler running away learning the game of chasey.

A family after my own heart, three boys just like me (mums of boys, you know exactly what kind of beautiful chaos I mean). It doesn't seem all that long ago that we did their first maternity session... now here we are, watching this crew grow into a family of five!⁠

I feel like this gorgeous family and I go way back. Ten sessions together now and this little one makes baby number three.

When memories pop up from 17 years ago… it takes me back to when it all started. One of my best friends and her new little babe…. I packed the car with very few props, my camera gear and a little heater to visit and take some photos.

From 2009 I did everything I could to learn about photographing newborns (there wasn’t the endless information online like today). There weren’t many workshops, so i learnt all I could about photography, lighting for newborns, learning baby safety and figuring out posing and a lot (a lot) of practise. It was a gradual process and then slowly began to build a business. I built the business around my growing family (having my third baby boy in 2010) and worked out of my home before moving to my studio.

Over the years I have photographed so many families and many families multiple times over … never imagined 17 years ago that this where the journey would take me. 🙏

Six weeks old and already their whole world.

There's a look parents get when they're staring down at their newborn, like she's here, she's ours. It's a quiet moment, not perfectly posed for the camera, but it's often the image I love most.

This stage goes so fast (I promise, even though nobody believes me until it's happened). The tiny fingers, the milk drunk sleep, the way you two are looking at her. So much will change in just a few months. But you'll have this to look back on forever.

I could watch newborns sleep all day (well it's kinda half my job and I'm not complaining). There's something about this stage, so fleeting and precious, that never gets old for me even after 17 years of doing this.
