Saying Goodbye to Winter in Style
The Mid North Cruising Club’s Terry Jackson organised a fantastic final-day-of-winter cruise on August 30, bringing together more than 80 cars for a memorable morning in Laura.The gathering began from 9am at Meryles Café in Laura’s main street, with a beautiful warm morning providing the perfect conditions for the event. Cars of all makes, models and eras turned up, ranging from early 1900s vintage vehicles with wooden spokes through to modern machinery, including a 2022 Fiat Abarth.While the cars provided plenty of interest for enthusiasts, the morning was also about supporting the local community. Lynette and Trevor Young from Warnertown, together with Anthony Lines from Laura, cooked up a delicious breakfast for the participants while raising funds for the Laura Community, Development and Tourism Association. After enjoying breakfast and catching up with fellow enthusiasts, most drivers set off on a spectacular cruise through the Port Germain Gorge, taking in the beautiful Mid North scenery before finishing at the Pirie and Districts Automotive Restorers Club rooms in Port Pirie. A number of new vehicles also joined the group at the finish, adding even more variety to an already impressive display.With the sun shining brightly, it seemed to mirror the smiles on the faces of the many people who took part. There were plenty of handshakes, waves and farewells as everyone said goodbye to winter and celebrated another successful cruise together.It was a wonderful day of motoring, friendship, community spirit and a shared love of cars — the perfect way to finish winter in the Mid North.
