Paul Bartlett is a documentary photographer based in Adelaide, South Australia. With a documentary/reportage foundation, his style focuses strongly on humanity and connection. "Whether I am connecting to who a person truly is at a portrait shoot, watching and observing a moment unfold at a wedding or event, or disarming and relating to a stranger on the street, the camera is merely there to docume

Since his beginnings as primarily a street photographer, Paul has expanded to portraits, weddings and events, along with some large scale projects that remain true to his street photography beginnings. "The more I photographed on the streets the more I was drawn to the people, I could literally see my photos getting closer and closer to the subjects I was shooting. This lead me to the desire to connect with people through portrait work and to document people connecting with each other through event and wedding photography."

It’s not often I get to combine my music & wedding photography, but when the groom pulls together the ultimate wedding band, how could I not.

Fun fact: I photographed the talented groom, Nathaniel, playing live several years back & now I had the privilege of capturing his wedding to the beautiful Thu.

So I’ve been calling this a de-branding rather than a re-branding.

For a long time I’ve kept different parts of my photography in different places. Weddings over here, documentary projects over there, books and prints somewhere else.

The funny thing is, they’ve never really felt separate to me.

The way I photograph a wedding comes directly from the years of experience in documentary work, and the experiences I’ve had through weddings have absolutely shaped the way I approach my personal projects too.

So over the next little while you’ll see everything gradually coming together under my own name, Paul Charles Bartlett.

Nothing is really changing about the work itself. If anything, this just feels like the most honest way to share it.

I’m excited that people who know me through weddings will get to see more of the projects, books and stories that shaped the way I see the world. And people who discovered me through those projects will get to see how that same approach carries across into weddings.

One photographer. One way of seeing. Just different stories.
