This iconic panorama captures Mount Fuji and the Chureito Pagoda overlooking Fujiyoshida during the golden hour. The composition balances the natural grandeur of the mountain with the vibrant traditional architecture of the pagoda, all set above a mist-covered valley.
Mount Fuji (Fuji-san) 🏔
An active stratovolcano and Japan’s highest peak, standing at 3,776 meters.
It is one of Japan's "Three Holy Mountains" and was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2013 as a cultural site rather than a natural one, due to its inspiration for artists and poets.
Fuji is world-renowned for its exceptionally symmetrical cone, which is snow-capped for several months of the year.
Chureito Pagoda 🛕
Built in 1958, this five-storied pagoda is actually a peace memorial dedicated to the citizens of Fujiyoshida who died in wars from the mid-1800s through WWII.
It is part of the Arakura Sengen Shrine complex. To capture this specific shot, visitors must climb approximately 398 stone steps up the hillside.
It is a classic example of a "Go-ju-no-to" (five-storied pagoda), representing the five elements: earth, water, fire, wind, and space.
Fujiyoshida City 🌇
Situated in the Yamanashi Prefecture at the northern base of Mount Fuji, the city sits at an elevation of roughly 600 to 900 meters.
Because of its high altitude and proximity to the mountain, the city often experiences the "sea of clouds" (unkai) effect seen in your photo.
The city is famous throughout Japan for Yoshida Udon, a specific type of thick, very firm noodle traditionally served with cabbage and horse meat.
