My latest and last exhibition for some time is the artists of the Foundry. This is an artist co-operative-cum-retail store, they sell everything from hand-formed sterling silver jewelry, to unique illustrations, paintings, prints & cards, to vintage clothing sourced locally [made from natural fibres], to bespoke homewares, to sustainable goods encouraging an eco-friendly life such as beeswax wraps, produce bags, bamboo crocheted washcloths, to high-quality ceramics, to handmade children's toys
They opened the doors in mid-2014 - but due to the kind-of secret location down a little laneway, just out the backdoor and walk towards Nicholson Street, many people still have no idea they exist. or what beautiful surprises they hold in-store! The team hosts approximately 65 local, creative guests
The MOST important thing about Foundry - is that when you make a purchase with them, you are supporting local artists and grassroots business, unique and creative economics, and our radical dream concept of supporting ourselves through honing and utilising our passions and skills!
Visit Paper Chase Cafe at 168 Main Street Bairnsdale to see the images.

FINISHES THIS WEEKEND
My latest series of photographs is now on display at Paper Chase Cafe, 168 Main Street, Bairnsdale. This collection features natural portraits of residents from Clifton Waters Village, a visionary project initiated in 1953 by Canon Smith, the Church Minister of St. John's Church of England in Bairnsdale.
Canon Smith's goal was to create a village dedicated to providing affordable housing for low-income individuals who had long been unable to own their homes. Over time, Clifton Waters Village has blossomed into a close-knit community where residents forge friendships and support each other as needs arise. Life in the Village offers a peaceful, serene existence for those who seek it, and opportunities for others to engage with and contribute to the broader community through volunteer work.
The Village residents depicted in Mathieson's images reflect the diversity of human character: helpful, joyful, reserved, solitary, married, single, and even those who struggle with contentment or have complaints. Despite their differences, residents generally find acceptance and support when it matters most.
Situated on the outskirts of Bairnsdale, a larger community, Clifton Waters Village attracts people from various backgrounds and experiences, making it a unique and vibrant place to live.

"I am currently working on a new project photographing local artists who supply The Foundry in Bairnsdale. It makes me ponder what legacy we, as professional photographers, are leaving for society when we alter reality with Photoshop. In portraiture, we often create images that may flatter the subject in the short term but may lose value over time for not accurately reflecting the individual we had the privilege to meet."
