The Diuris Parvipetala. This lovely little donk is also called the Slender Donkey Orchid.

I didn’t have any at my place last year. This year there was just one.

My photos of her are not great because she is so little and it was windy, but I couldn’t resist putting her on the page.

It’s my absolute favorite thing to walk into a part of the bush I have never been before and find several rare species within the first 15 minutes of walking.

Zieria compacta. I love this little pink bush.

Not as hot pink as the boronia I am infatuated with but none the less when you see this pink beauty in the bush as one of the first flowering plants it is pretty special.

Bulbophyllum elisae or more commonly known as the pineapple orchid.

Pretty chuffed with this find and Ella and I will go back next weekend to see if there is any sign of flowers.

The un-edited version of taking photos for the ID of plant species.

This is Allocasuarina littoralis or Black sheoak.

I take as many photos as I can of the full plant, the bark, the flowering body, the leaves and any structures of the plant such as fine hairs on leaves or stems, or any specific feature at that time of the season. These photos generally dont make the cut for the page.

Did you know that sometimes to get the correct ID of a plant you need to go back in another season to take photos of flowers or seed pods etc to make a correct ID.

I am still learning, I would say that I am a beginner when identifying plant species. But I really enjoy the process of hunting, photographing and later using books and plant apps to help ID plants.

Can’t wait for spring. The wattle is out already.

The Luggate Flour Mill New Zealand (Former) is a significant example of industrial architecture relating to flour milling in the nineteenth century. In common with other flour mills it is a multi-storey structure to allow for the processing of grain, and its form goes some way to illustrating how grain was processed. As with other Central Otago flour mills, its stone construction is typical of the region.

I couldn’t help myself but to make a detour when we drove past this abandoned building.

What a cracker house this would make. Luggage is between Wānaka and Queenstown.

2 decent photos of the old heritage Sunnyside rail bridge north of Tenterfield NSW.

I have driven past this bridge for over 25 years. In my early 20’s driving from Armidale to Brisbane. Now living 10 mins down the road for the last decade I finally stopped to take a few.
