Joel Stafford

Joel Stafford The Tired Photographer As you most likely have guessed from my websites name, my name is Joel Stafford.

I was born in Tweed Heads, and grew up on the Southern Gold Coast. I'm 36, married to my beautiful wife, and together we have an amazing little boy. I've been a photographer for 8 years now, and over those years I've slowly evolved not only as a photographer, but as a person. My love of photography started when I was in High School, but never really flourished until I was older and able to afford

to buy my first DSLR camera. (It was all down hill from there)

I started shooting sunrises down at the beach with my Dad, then my interests evolved into shooting portraits and fashion after spending 5 years of my life living in Bondi. My love and passion of the ocean and beach lifestyle was to strong and in 2011 with my Dads help, we created Liquid Boulevard as an outlet to share our early morning adventures down along the Gold Coast beaches. Liquid Boulevard has been a big part of my life for the past 6 years, but the vision I once had for it as now finished, but it's essence will always live on within my style of photography.

Great to get out under clear dark skies again!!! Snuck in another image of the MW Core setting in the West before it disappears again until next year.
Because I’ve been so slack lately I totally forgot about our little green blob friend visiting in the western skies also….C/2025 R2 SWAN. See him to the top right of frame? Certainly not visible to the naked eye, but shows up well on camera with a long exposure.

Finally spent a night under clear dark skies at a special place. The Paul Wild Radio Observatory has one night per month when they allow the public roam around the telescopes capturing the night sky with such cool foreground interests. More images to come 🙌🏼

First Milky Way Core Image of 2025!!!
Capturing this off the back of my last Orion image, I had to pull a all nighter to get a glimpse of the core again. Because of the quick transition from shooting Orion setting to then the MW Core rising I was able to get to this old abandoned Hall in the middle of nowhere and use it as some foreground interest, which isn’t normally my usual choice of subject.

Finally after quite some time I’ve found myself under some dark clear skies!! It’s been waaaay too long and the other night was worth the wait. I found myself hiking for about 30mins in the Mt Barney National Park to Yellowpinch Lookout to capture this image, and what a view (for what I could see in the dark). Trying to capture Orion setting in the West which aligns nicely with Mt Barney I knew I need to get this image in the bag.
Spent 30mins of tracking Orion as I could see clouds starting to come towards Mt Barney, and then managed a two photo pano of Mt Barney as the cloud started to wrap around the peaks.

Well that was a great (brief) evening with the Comet. Still very naked eye visible if you’re under nice dark skies. 🙌🏼 Glad to get this one last night with it before it dims and disappears for thousands of years.
