Perth has finally started turning golden again.
Every autumn, Hyde Park feels like it’s glowing at sunset.
The trees, the soft light, the fallen leaves — everything looks like a scene from a movie.
I photograph a lot of maternity sessions every year,
but this kind of light still stops me every time.
Because maternity photography is never just about the photos.
It’s about the waiting.
—
Waiting for a tiny little person to arrive in your world.
There’s excitement, nervousness, tenderness…
and so many emotions that are hard to explain.
That’s why I’ve slowly moved away from overly posed maternity photography.
Instead of perfect poses,
I want to capture:
the way he looks down at the baby bump,
the little smile when she touches her belly,
the quiet moments between two people becoming parents.
Those moments feel small in real time,
but years later, they become everything.
—
What I loved most about this session was how effortless it felt.
Soft neutral knitwear,
minimal styling,
no complicated props.
Just beautiful autumn light wrapping around them naturally.
And somehow, that simplicity made everything feel even more emotional.
Sometimes “luxury” or “high-end” doesn’t come from elaborate setups.
It comes from honesty.
From real connection.
—
A lot of clients ask me:
“When is the best time to take maternity photos?”
I usually recommend:
🤍 Around 28–34 weeks
🤍 When the bump has a beautiful shape
🤍 And mum still feels comfortable moving around
And honestly — autumn in Perth is one of the best seasons for outdoor maternity photography.
The sunlight is softer,
the colours are warm,
and the whole atmosphere feels calm and romantic.
Perfect for natural, relaxed, story-driven maternity portraits.
—
If you’ve been thinking about documenting this season of life,
don’t wait too long.
Because once your baby arrives,
you’ll realise the waiting was beautiful too.
