🥈 Honouring this moment has won me a Silver Award at Birth Photographer of the Year this year!

🥰 Thank you to my mentors and friends, clients and family (and in this case client that is now family ♥️) for trusting me with such precious moments and encouraging me to share them… even though I’m terrible at getting my work out here! 🫣 (in fact it’s one of two! but we’ll get to that)

♥️ Thank you to my biggest supporter for encouraging me to sprint the marathon at the eleventh hour!

📖 Too many other things took priority in the lead up to the submission deadline and it was only when I realised I hadn’t missed it but still had a few precious hours that I even selected my images!

((🙃 and anyone who’s seen me cull a gallery knows that’s not my strong point before I even start! 😅😂🫣))

📸 Holding Your Heart (and Head) In My Hands

🏳️‍🌈 I genuinely don’t gender many things in our world (shocker from the Q***r Birth Workers trying to raise healthy humans eh?)

🖐️ But I do find myself looking for this moment of babies with their Dads (if they have one) at births.

‼️ It’s a MASSIVE generalisation (I know!) but often a male’s hands are biggest - so for me it’s the perfect way to show just how tiny this new human is.

🕰️ And they’ll never, ever be this small again 🥹

🙈 And now because this whole post is giving me pause and making me wonder if I should even be making these comments - let me clarify that I definitely DO capture the same sorts of detail with babies’ mums too! (I’ll show you these soon as well).
And not all babies are born to mums and dads! Families come in all variations.
(Ours were born to two mums, so let’s be clear about where I stand on this)

I have to at least share this.

I literally sob every time I think about what’s going on.

It makes me turn away because I can’t handle the feelings and fear it invokes in me.

I’m a mother.

It’s all too real imagining having no control to keep my babies safe.

I’m not an expert on the instability of the Middle East. I don’t pretend to be.

I DON’T CARE WHO STARTED IT!

GENOCIDE IS WRONG!

MURDERING BABIES IS WRONG!

And I honestly don’t know what to do about it, except be clear about my feelings here.
