I just wanted to surprise the kids with a marshmallow dessert pizza after our pizza night…

What I didn’t expect was for the surprise to turn into an actual fire.

The kids thought it was the most exciting part of the night. I, on the other hand, aged about 10 years in 10 seconds.

Lesson learned: marshmallows and ovens require a little more supervision than I anticipated. 😅

The biggest mistake I see brides make is not allocating enough time after they’ve just got married for those beautiful greeting moments with family and friends.

That time right after the ceremony is where the magic happens: hugs, tears, laughter, and the most honest, unscripted emotion of the whole day.

When you slow it down and actually give space for it, that’s where you get the most beautiful, organic, spontaneous photos you’ll treasure forever.

Build it into your timeline. You won’t regret it.

Controversial opinion: your detail photos are not the most important photos from your wedding day.

There, I said it.

Don’t get me wrong. I like photographing the dress, the shoes, the earrings, and all the little pieces you’ve carefully chosen. But years from now, those won’t be the images that stop you in your tracks.

The photos you’ll come back to are the ones filled with emotion. Your dad seeing you for the first time. Your mum trying not to cry. Your sister fixing your veil. Your best friends squeezing your hand before you walk down the aisle.

Those are the moments that matter.

The details help tell the story, but the people, the connections, and the emotions are the heart of it all.

I know some people might disagree, but after photographing countless weddings, I’ve learned that what we cherish most isn’t the stuff. It’s the feeling.

One of my brides once told me that her dad had made her a promise: if he couldn’t make it to her wedding , he would be there as A Magpie.

On her wedding day, as she stood saying her vows, a magpie landed right above her head.
