The last hour of the day is my favourite time to capture magical portraits. That golden light across the grass, with soft highlights in everyone’s hair, creates such a beautiful natural glow. I love the warmth it brings to those real, candid in-between moments.

Old industrial locations might seem simple and a little neglected at first glance, but they can make the most incredible backdrop for family portraits. They’re full of rich colour, texture, and natural combinations that beautifully complement the people in front of the camera. In this session, the navy outfits paired perfectly with the cool tones of the metal, while the warm rust added just the right amount of contrast to make a strong family portrait.

I like to incorporate an industrial background in my family photo sessions. These locations add a bit of street cred and personality to the images. The variety of colours, textures, and lines create a completely different feel compared to a green nature setting or a beach backdrop. I can already picture how awesome it’s going to look hanging on the wall in Leanne’s house!

There’s something truly magical about a mangrove forest backdrop for family portraits. The overgrown trees, soft light, and tall grass create such a natural setting filled with beautiful texture and earthy tones. Carlie and her gorgeous family made this session picture perfect. They brought such a relaxed, joyful energy to this beautiful setting.

As the sun begins to dip below the horizon, we’re treated to the most beautiful warm tones for your family portraits. The dreamy light, the connection and the quiet in-between moments. It all comes together so naturally during golden hour.
We had a wonderful afternoon by the bay with Kirsten and her lovely family.

I’ve walked past this gate on my way to another photo location so many times… and this was the first time I stopped and used it as a prop.
It turned out beautiful in one of Leanne’s gorgeous family portraits. I love how it frames everyone so naturally and adds that relaxed, outdoor feel. I’ll definitely be using this spot again!
