7 CHAIRS is the creative brainchild of Sydney based commercial photographer Ben Halcomb. With nearly 30 years experience, Ben is a multi award-winning photographer who currently runs Nikon Australia’s highly successful educational arm Nikon School. Having shot over 400 weddings in his career, it is fair to say that Ben loves helping couples to capture their special day in a way that brings their i

ndividual spirit – and love - to life. This passion to help others is also evident when you take part in one of 7 CHAIRS’ Workshops designed to help anyone from a new starter to a seasoned photographer. As an educator, Ben is both approachable and patient, with a wide knowledge of cameras (from film to digital). Whilst preferring to work with Nikon cameras himself, Ben hasn’t come across a camera yet that he can’t help someone use better! When asked of which image he is most proud Ben said ‘ The photograph of my son (then aged 18 months) & grandfather walking together hand in hand – each with their own walking stick. It won Gold at the 2000 APPA’s (Australian Professional Photography Awards) but that isn’t the reason....it is because a few months later my grandfather passed away and for me this image will forever hold a special place in my heart’. at Flemington marked a huge milestone last year, celebrating its 50th anniversary on September 12.

Since opening in 1975, the markets have been the beating heart of fresh produce in NSW. The celebration honoured the founding tenants; the “Class of ’75” many of whom are still trading today. Their stories tell the history and spirit behind Australia’s largest wholesale produce hub.

It was one of our favourite events to photograph in 2025. Over nearly eight years, the 7Chairs team has spent plenty of time at Sydney Markets, building close relationships with the friendly vendors and their families.

Being there to capture the day’s special recognition of their hard work and dedication to feeding NSW was truly meaningful. We love working with the markets community and can’t wait for more events to come.

Back in December, the team at The Royce in Penrith invited us along to photograph their annual Christmas celebration.

It was a joy to capture residents spending time with their families, sharing laughs, hugs and all the little moments that make the festive season feel special. Events like this are about connection and community, and it was clear how much this celebration meant to everyone involved.

We’re grateful to The Royce for trusting us to document such an important day. Photographs from events like these become more than just images, they’re a way to remember moments, celebrate community and share the culture of an organisation long after the decorations come down.

Held by the , the annual auction brings growers, wholesalers and retailers together to bid on the season’s first premium cherries, raising vital funds for . in 2025 a record breaking auction raised an incredible $260,000, helping fund free flights and ground transport for seriously ill children and their families travelling from regional NSW and QLD for medical care.

What makes this event so special isn’t just the energy in the room or the excitement of the bidding, it’s hearing the stories from the families whose lives are directly impacted by the funds raised. Those moments stop you in your tracks and remind you exactly why this work matters.

We’re incredibly thankful to be trusted to document these moments, preserving not just the event itself but the emotion, connection and impact behind it. Capturing events like this gives organisations powerful content to share their story long after the night is over, and a meaningful record of the difference they’re making.

We were proud to be the official photographers on site at for 2025's Cherry Selection event, kicking off the lead up to the Cherry Ball.

The morning was all about tasting and selecting boxes of premium cherries that will be auctioned on the night, bringing together quality produce, great people and a strong sense of community. It was great to see get things started alongside Josh Reynolds and Ava Cannon.

Congratulations to Hugh Maloy from , whose cherry box took out top honours at last year’s Cherry Selection.

The work Little Wings does in providing free professional flight and ground transport for seriously ill children and their families is truly inspiring, and events like the Cherry Ball play a huge role in supporting that mission.

From a business point of view, events like this are worth documenting properly. They become valuable marketing assets, a way to showcase partnerships, tell your story and create content that lasts well beyond the day.

Happy Father’s Day from all of us at 7Chairs.

To mark the occasion, Ben — owner of 7Chairs — decided it was time to update the family album. On a sunny Sunday morning he and Sharne, along with the kids Ash, Laura, Paris, Hayden and Alana, plus the four grandkids, all turned out for a family shoot.

And let’s be honest, the beard wasn’t fooling anyone… Ben’s been giving grandpa vibes for years.

When it came time to choose a photographer, he naturally went with the person who taught him everything he knows about photography 😉 (Jack Ham Imagery). Great photographer, social media manager extraordinaire and all-round top bloke — turns out Jack is a real triple threat (even if I do say so myself).

Back in March we were on site for the family and friends soft launch of the brand new Hay St Market at Paddys Haymarket. With more than 48 traders under one roof, it’s a vibrant space where you can eat, drink, shop and play from morning until late.

The soft launch was buzzing — a taste of what’s now a fully licensed market that shifts effortlessly from a daytime shopping spot to an after-dark foodie destination. From street snacks to sit-down bites, drinks at Cans & Crates or Traders Bar and plenty to take home, it’s a celebration of Sydney’s multicultural community and diversity.

It was a joy to capture the excitement of this new chapter in one of the city’s most iconic market spaces — and once the work was done, it was great to join in with the festivities too… just don’t tell the boss.

Bright light city gonna set my soul, gonna set my soul on fire… and that’s exactly what happened earlier this year when Paddys Markets Flemington celebrated The King with an unforgettable Elvis Presley tribute show.

There were showgirls, live music, big sideburns and plenty of hip-shaking fun. The crowd was singing, dancing and grinning from ear to ear — a true tribute to the energy and charm of Elvis himself.
