⚠️ IMPORTANT NOTICE — SERIOUS ALLEGATIONS REGARDING MY BUSINESS ⚠️
🖐🏼EDIT TO ADD*
I want to add some further clarification following what has happened since making this post.
A friend of the client commented stating that the client had paid me $50, that I had given her a “random” refund of $24.45, and that there was no contract in place.
I attached the records showing that these statements were incorrect. The payment made was $25, there was a signed contract, and the $24.45 was not a random amount — it was the amount I had received from the transaction after the processing fee had been deducted. When the remaining difference was brought to my attention, I refunded that as well. The comments have since been deleted.
For further context, this was also not a standard full photography session. It was a special pay-if-you-can session offering, where a small contribution was made at the time of booking to hold a session space. The signed contract states that these sessions were approximately 15–25 minutes.
I also want to explain why I referenced the recent negative review in my original post. When requesting her refund, the client told me she had “read other people that have had the same experience.” I then received a notification that a negative review had been left and connected the two. I subsequently realised that the review itself had actually been posted the night before, and I want to be completely transparent about that timeline.
What has happened since, however, has demonstrated why I felt the need to defend my business. Incorrect information regarding the amount paid, the existence of a contract and the circumstances of the booking was then communicated to another person and repeated publicly.
I have also since received a phone call where I was called a “fing fat b***.”** Despite that, I answered because I was prepared to actually speak through the situation. Personal attacks regarding my appearance have absolutely nothing to do with a photography booking and are completely unacceptable.
I have the signed contract, payment records and correspondence to support what I am saying. I am happy to acknowledge where I could have handled something differently, but I will also correct information about myself and my business when the documented evidence shows that what is being said is not accurate.🖐🏼
I feel I need to address something that has occurred today because the circumstances and allegations that have followed have left me deeply saddened, incredibly anxious and frustrated.
I don't generally discuss client matters publicly, and I certainly don't want to speak negatively about any client. However, because serious claims are now being made publicly about my business, I feel it is important that I explain what has actually occurred from my end.
Earlier today, I was communicating with a client who had booked one of my special pay-what-you-can donation sessions. She contributed $25 toward a photography session valued at over $285.
These sessions were something I offered as a way of giving back and allowing families to receive professional photographs regardless of what they were financially able to contribute.
Unfortunately, it was raining on the day of her session and the session needed to be rescheduled.
I want to clarify that this was the only client from these pay-what-you-can sessions whose session required rescheduling. Over the three days these sessions were held, I successfully photographed approximately 15 other sessions, and the photographs from those sessions have all been delivered.
The client contacted me regarding rescheduling on two occasions; however, specific alternative dates were not provided for me to confirm a new booking. As a result, we unfortunately never established a mutually suitable replacement date.
I don't believe there was ill intent from either side in this situation. From my perspective, it was simply a miscommunication surrounding the rescheduling process.
I have since refunded her $24.45 contribution.
However, during our conversation today, the client stated that she had seen other situations involving people allegedly seeking refunds from my business.
This immediately concerned me.
I checked my current booking and workflow systems because I would be absolutely horrified to discover that somebody had been unintentionally overlooked.
At this time, my systems do not show clients who have booked and paid for sessions simply being left without their session, nor do they show the outstanding matters being suggested to me.
Then, within approximately five minutes of that statement being made to me, I received a very serious negative Facebook review.
The person who posted the review has never personally booked a photography session with me. Instead, the review was written regarding an alleged experience of an unnamed family member.
The review alleges, among other things, that a newborn session lasted approximately 35 minutes ( when has that ever happened?!) 😔, that the session ended when the baby became unsettled, and that this family has now been waiting almost six months for their newborn photographs.
I genuinely do not recognise this session or experience.
I have absolutely no recollection of conducting a newborn session that lasted only approximately 30–35 minutes under the circumstances described.
More importantly, I have checked my current workflow and I cannot identify a newborn client who has been waiting almost six months for their photographs.
I have been operating from my current studio for approximately six months, and within this time my newborn sessions have progressed through my workflow and photographs have been delivered. There is currently nothing within my system that matches the situation described in this review.
I have therefore asked the reviewer to privately provide me with the name of the family member/client they are referring to.
I genuinely want to know.
If there is a real client behind this experience, I want to identify their booking, go through the complete correspondence, check their gallery and delivery history and establish exactly what has happened.
I also want to make something very clear:
I am not publicly alleging that the client I communicated with earlier today is responsible for this review.
I am simply explaining the sequence of events as they occurred: concerns about other people allegedly seeking refunds were raised with me, and approximately five minutes later I received a serious review from somebody who has never personally been a client, describing a family member whose alleged experience I currently cannot identify within my records.
Naturally, the timing has been extremely concerning to me.
I am honestly deeply saddened and hurt by all of this.
I am sitting here with an enormous amount of anxiety and frustration because this business means so much to me. I pour so much of myself into my photography and into caring for the families who trust me to capture moments they can never get back.
But I also want to be completely transparent.
I am human, a mum..and technology and administrative systems are not infallible.
So I want to say this directly to every current or past client:
🤎 If you genuinely believe you have an outstanding session, reschedule PLEASE contact me directly.
If, by any chance, my booking or workflow system has failed to alert me to something, I will personally go through it.
I will search my records and correspondence and make absolutely certain that the situation is addressed.
If a session has genuinely been missed and still needs to occur, I will ensure that it is rescheduled.
If there is genuinely a situation where a session cannot be fulfilled and a refund is appropriate, I will ensure it is refunded.
If photographs are genuinely outstanding, I want to know so that I can investigate exactly what has happened and make sure they are appropriately addressed.
I also have received no correspondence of anyone asking for their newborn photographs from that long ago
I would never knowingly leave somebody without a session or photographs that I am responsible for providing.
At this point, however, after checking my current workflow, I have nothing outstanding that matches the allegations currently being made about my business.
If there genuinely is a family behind this review, I sincerely ask that they contact me directly, or that the reviewer provide me privately with the client's name, so that I am actually given the opportunity to investigate this.
I will not publish private client correspondence, booking details or personal information, and I don't want this situation to become a public argument.
I simply cannot allow allegations this serious to be made about myself and my business without addressing them, particularly when I currently cannot identify the alleged client or session.
My integrity and the trust my families place in me mean everything to me.
Thank you to everyone who continues to trust and support Kaylah Josephine Photography. 🤎
