A quiet morning for birds at Archerfield Wetlands, but sometimes it only takes one good encounter to make it worthwhile.

This Brown Goshawk certainly made the morning.

The leopard was so well camouflaged we almost drove past it. Once we spotted it, we watched as it slowly moved through the grass, completely focused on the hunt.

This was one of the encounters from my latest Kruger video, filmed during the green season.

A few more birds from the quieter section of water at Enoggera Reservoir. It was well worth spending some time exploring the surrounding bush as well. There was a nice variety of smaller birds around, and it made for a really enjoyable morning.

Now for some action shots of raptors around Cunnamulla.

I always enjoy trying to photograph birds of prey in flight. Most opportunities only last a second or two, so it's all about being ready when they decide to take off or fly past. These images were taken over several sessions around Cunnamulla.

A few action shots from around Cunnamulla.

I enjoyed spending time trying to capture birds a little differently. Whether it was birds taking off, landing or interacting with each other, it was a fun challenge and a nice change from my usual portraits.

Some moments only lasted a fraction of a second, but they're often the ones that are the most rewarding to photograph.

A few different parrot species from my time around Eulo.

With all the water around after the rain, they weren't spending much time at the bore itself, but there were plenty in the surrounding habitat, with some already looking for places to nest.

It was another reminder that sometimes it's worth exploring beyond the main birding spot. The surrounding mulga held plenty of activity, and every morning seemed to produce something a little different.

More photos from Paddabilla Bore. Every morning seemed to bring a different mix of species, so it was well worth going back on a few different occasions. The beautiful morning light and the fresh green vegetation after the rain made it a fantastic place to spend a few hours photographing birds.

It's amazing how different the same bird can look simply because of what's being reflected in the water. The bird may be the same, but the colours reflected in the water create a completely different mood in each image.

This Musk Duck was photographed at Warner Lakes, where the calm water reflected everything from the blue sky to the surrounding trees. Depending on where the bird was swimming, the photographs took on completely different colours and feel, even though they were taken at the same location.

It's one of the things I enjoy most about photographing waterbirds. Looking beyond the bird itself and paying attention to the reflections can completely change the final image.

A continuation of the terrific birdlife I saw at Paddabilla Bore over a few beautiful mornings.

Paddabilla Bore turned out to be one of my favourite places to visit near Eulo. Every morning brought a different mix of birds, and it seemed that every stop uncovered another species.

On this visit I photographed a pair of Bourke's Parrots, a Crested Bellbird, Brown Treecreeper and Yellow-rumped Thornbill. It was one of those places where you could happily spend hours just watching the birds come and go.
