Too many caravanās are sadly rolling over on what most would say are good roads. Particularly north of Brisbane to Gympie. Automatic gearboxes are designed to save as much fuel as possible- so when approaching downhill sections, the car gears to top gear, creating inertia with the van. Itās like the van is free rolling down the decline with nothing in front of it! Then the crosswind hits or the driver taps the brakes to slow the van down, and the load starts to sway. Locking your transmission in 4th before the decline, loads the ball and tension of the load, drastically reducing the propensity for sway or worse⦠Simple tip, but save a lot more than just a big accident! Having done 2 laps with 3T of behind us, we thought it was a good tip to share!
