There is a version of her that existed before this moment.

Before the growing belly.
Before the little kicks beneath her hands.
Before the wondering, the waiting, the imagining of a face she hasn’t met yet.

And then, somewhere along the way, she began becoming someone new.

Not less of who she was before — but more.

A little softer in some places.
Stronger in others.
Carrying a love she can’t quite put into words yet, but already knows she would move mountains for.

These days of waiting can feel so ordinary while you’re living them. The tiredness. The stretching. The counting down. The wondering when you’ll finally meet the little person who has already changed so much.

But one day, she’ll look back at photographs like these and remember.

"This was me, before I knew your face.
Before I held you.
Before I knew just how much our lives were about to change."

Just her, carrying the beginning of an entirely new chapter.

Somewhere in the world, there are billions of love stories being lived.

But there is only one that belongs to these two.

A story made up of all the moments no one else saw.

The conversations that lasted until the early hours.
The ordinary Tuesdays.
The laughter that made them fall a little more in love.
The hard days they got through together.
The tiny, seemingly insignificant moments that quietly became everything.

And now, here they were.

Not because this moment was extraordinary.

But because they are.

Because this is their story.

And there is something incredibly beautiful about knowing that every chapter still waiting ahead will be theirs to write — together. ✨

One day, these hands will be bigger.

They’ll wrap around a bike handle.
Reach for the things he wants.
Hold a pencil.
Tie his own shoes.
Perhaps one day, they’ll reach for the hand of someone he loves.

But for now, they are impossibly tiny.

Still learning how to uncurl.
Fingers that instinctively reach for Mum’s.
Hands that disappear inside hers when she holds them close.

And maybe that’s the beautiful thing about newborn days — they are made up of details you don’t realise you’ll miss until they’re gone.

The tiny fingers.
The sleepy stretches.
The way his whole hand fits inside yours.

These are the moments worth remembering.

Because he won’t always be this small.

But you’ll always want to remember that he was.

Before there are tiny fingers to hold, there is this.

A curve beneath the bust.
A body stretched beautifully around new life.
A quiet moment suspended between anticipation and arrival.

Full term and carrying the weight of everything that is about to change.

The final days of becoming.

Soon, this body that has been a sanctuary will become a memory of the beginning. The movements beneath the skin will become a baby held in arms. And the waiting will give way to the first breath, the first cry, the first moment of 'there you are'.

For now, she carries.

Softly.
Gracefully.
Completely.

So many times we talk about how powerful women are as they birth these beautiful babes. We talk about the sacrifices that they make in every aspect of their lives.

Work.
Home.
Sleep.
Their bodies.
Their friendships.
Their mental health.
Their place in the world.

We talk about how women sacrifice these things so they may care for these babies, and have their partners support them.

But what about their partners?

They too make sacrifices.

Work, home, family, their mental health, their friendships, their place in the world.

I see so many dads figuring it out alongside new mums. Figuring out how to do it, just as much as mums do.

I see the softness their babies bring.
Every cuddle, every feed, every change, every soothe, every kiss.

I see their story unfold as they hold their little one in their arms, and the strength they bring.

Because becoming a father is it's own kind of transformation.

A quiet reshaping of who they are.
A learning to put someone else's needs before their own.
A discovering of a tenderness they may never have known was there.

And in the moments between the chaos, the sleepless nights and the figuring it all out, there is something extraordinary happening.

A father is being born, too.

The tiniest of details.

You spend what feels like an eternity staring at this brand new human you've just brought home, marveling at their tiny fingers, tiny toes, wrinkles and endless facial expressions.

You think that this time, bubble, this exhaustion is going to last forever as you cycle between sleeps, feeds, changes, snuggles and soft sighs.

Then one day, you stare down at your tiny human and realise the newborn wrinkles are gone, the hands and arms aren't waving around with no control anymore and they are studying you just as intently as you did to them in the early days.

She carried life to the edge of the world for the fifth time, and stood there fearless.

Full term.
Wildly powerful.
Completely, beautifully, becoming.

With the ocean behind her and the whole sky ahead, she stood at the threshold of everything that was about to change.

Motherhood, in it's most breathtaking form.

Veiled in white, eyes lowered, and carrying a whole new world beneath her heart. I love this moment from Amber's maternity session, where she took a quiet moment to pause before everything changes - before love has a face, a name and she has tiny hands to hold.

Soon, the belly that has held so much love will be replaced by a tiny onesie filled with new life, and a cosy bassinet will hold peaceful slumbers — surrounded by all the wonder and joy of a beautiful new beginning.
