Roky and Dempsey’s story was built through years of knowing each other, working together, disagreeing, sneaking around, and slowly discovering that what they had was something much bigger than either of them expected.

And then there’s the part of their story that makes it even more special.
Roky didn’t just fall in love with Dempsey. She grew to love his daughter too. From teaching her how to tie her shoelaces to standing beside Dempsey on her first day of school, their relationship had already become something deeply meaningful long before this day.

That’s what I love about weddings.
The things that happen before the aisle. The relationships that existed long before the day arrived. The little stories tucked inside the speeches. The people who have watched your love unfold and now get to stand beside you as you promise forever.

At Fins at Plantation House, I had the privilege of documenting Roky and Dempsey’s story through both photography and film, capturing not just how their day looked, but how it felt.

And the speeches? They told a story all on their own.

I’m still piecing their film together and I genuinely cannot wait to share it when it’s ready. There are moments in it that deserve to be felt, not just watched.

There’s no assistant, no production crew, no army of gear.
Just me, Ray Ban Meta glasses, my Panasonic Lumix, a Godox V1, camera harness, and the lenses that help me tell your day exactly as it unfolds.

And honestly? That’s how I like it.

Because your wedding doesn’t need another person directing every moment. You need someone who knows when to step in, when to step back, and when to simply let the moment happen.

The teary parent. The dress that’s picked up a little dirt by the end of the night. The champagne, the chaos, the quiet glances, the people you love most completely losing themselves on the dance floor.

Those are the moments I’m there for.

Standing beneath the trees at Fins at Plantation House, Roky & Dempsey made promises that reached far beyond the two of them. As they spoke their vows, there wasn’t a dry eye in sight. It was the kind of ceremony that reminded everyone why weddings are about so much more than beautiful details. They’re about the people, the promises and the lives that become forever intertwined.

Having their entire celebration in one place meant the day unfolded exactly as it should. No rushing between locations. No watching the clock. Just the freedom to be present while every laugh, every embrace and every quiet moment was documented as it naturally happened.

There wasn’t a person in the room who wasn’t smiling.

Erin spent around six months learning the Traditional Samoan Tauluga, not because she had to, but because honouring Paulo’s culture mattered to her. When the music began, every person in the room felt the weight of what this moment represented. Family gathered close, smiles stretched from ear to ear, tears quietly appeared, and loved ones showered her with money as a gesture of celebration, respect and blessing. It wasn’t a performance. It was love expressed through tradition.

These are the moments I find myself drawn to every single time. The ones that can’t be recreated. The ones where I know to quietly step back and let the story unfold, while being close enough to preserve every glance, every emotion and every feeling exactly as it happened.
