3x3 (2v3) Tournament

Yesterday’s 2v3 basketball session was a bit awkward. We registered individually, so we didn’t know who would be on our team or how many players there would be (I thought there would be five), but we turned up to the tournament regardless.

It proved challenging when my teammate pointed out that one of the players was “on his way.” In my 31 years of experience, that phrase means, “Bro, don’t wait for me.” So, we pressed on and continued the game 2v3 instead of 3v3 as intended, while the other team had players on the bench. Our double team got thoroughly thrashed, but we really needed an extra player in the final game. Thankfully, a kind-hearted onlooker on his ‘birks’ said he would be happy to join.

In the third and final game, we came out hotter than a tea kettle in summer and won. We didn’t recruit a player earlier because, according to FIBA 3×3 rules, doing so would have resulted in an automatic forfeit.

Ten years ago!

I rediscovered a creative concept from my archives: I brought together talented models for a project where art and reality intersected.

During the studio shoot, one model was the artist, drawing the other, who acted as her living sketch against a white background. The scene created a surreal illusion of the sketch coming to life, blurring the boundary between art and reality. The white backdrop highlighted this idea, making the model seem to emerge from the page.

Thanks to the talented team who made this dream real—some ideas last forever! 🤍

My graduation/birthday included a wide range of activities from early morning till late at night when I got home. I can’t list every activity because it’s too long, but I can give a glimpse of the joyful pre-graduation event.

It's incredible to look back at how far I've come, and even more inspiring to realise that my learning continues as I delve deeper into my Master's in Environmental Management. Exciting goals lie ahead!

Speaking of journeys, look who I ran into!

Here's to new beginnings, ongoing growth, and the wonderful people we encounter!

📸 Day 6 of 6: A portraitist's portrait in South Korea

On my last day, I stepped out from behind the camera for a long-overdue portrait session, and it was unexpectedly vulnerable for this photographer. Needless to say, I’m usually very comfortable giving directions, but I felt nervous being the subject. However, magic happened.

The warmth of the photographer's professional presence created an atmosphere of trust, built through unspoken words and confidence.

Every time the lights were adjusted, it felt like a meaningful exchange of angles, perspectives, and artistry.

By the time we reached the third outfit change, we weren't merely capturing images for my various practices; we were creating moments.

What happened? I received exactly what I wanted and the added pleasure of recalling how it felt to be on the other side of the lens!

🏛️ Day 5 of 6: A Cultural Odyssey Through Seoul

National Museum – Where Time Stood Still
Stepping off the train, the grand entrance resembled an airport terminal—minus the rushing crowds and luggage. Inside, history unfolded within silent galleries:

- Buddha statues, frozen in serene meditation, have stone folds that whisper ancient prayers.
- Relics from my archaeology textbooks have suddenly become tangible—ceramics, tools, and treasures that connect the dots from lectures to reality.
- A fleeting time warp, where the Joseon dynasty encounters modern curiosity.

Dongdaemun Design Plaza (DDP) – Architecture as Art.
Zaha Hadid’s futuristic masterpiece is a visual poem crafted in steel and curves:

- The building’s organic, alien-like silhouette reveals a new perspective with every angle.
- Floral installations burst like frozen fireworks against the metallic ribs.
- A playground for creatives, where design is not only seen but also felt.

Seoul Art School – The Unexpected Epiphany
A delightful detour from the scheduled gallery visit took me to an art school that:

- Redefined artistic immersion.
- Where students demonstrated a solid understanding of artistic practice and enjoyed the freedom to create.
- This vibrant space, combined with a nearby calligraphy museum, deepened my appreciation for the arts.

🏙️ Day 4 of 6: Unexpected Delights at Seoul Tower

I decided to hike to the top of Seoul Tower, believing it was the only way to reach the summit. However, when I reached the halfway point, I noticed a bus gliding by sweaty hikers like myself, which travels to and from the Tower.

Once I arrived at the top, I encountered a talented artist and knew I had to sit down for a portrait. I soon realised that a prominent reporter was covering the news. Since I was already seated and having my portrait sketched, I could only take a quick snapshot to capture the moment.

It’s worth noting that I thoroughly enjoyed the hike, so I decided to take a proper walk back down the tower. I also witnessed some performances and indulged in a delicious treat.

🎖️ Day 3 of 6: The Weight and Lightness of Memory

In a blur of excitement and laughter, the little girl raced past the Memorial Wall, her tiny shoes thudding on the same ground where statues of soldiers stood still in battle.

Seoul's war history is not confined to glass cases; it permeates the spaces surrounding the monuments and the children who dart around them. It embodies the weight of sacrifice and the warmth of a mother’s voice calling her daughter home.

📚 Day 2 of 6: When a Library Feels Magical

My second day took me to the Starfield Library—a cathedral of bookshelves towering toward the sky. Golden sunlight streamed through the glass ceiling, and the soft hum of readers enveloped me.

I was truly captivated by this remarkable temple of knowledge, nestled in the bustling heart of the city. Strangers paused mid-stride; their necks tilted back in silent awe. Locals murmured over steaming cups of tea and coffee nearby, their laughter blending with the whisper of pages turning.

I came for the books, but Starfield offered me something even better: a place where strangers shared a collective sense of wonder, transforming reading into a communal celebration.

📸 Day 1 of 6: Exploring the Creative and Historical Hubs of Seoul

My first day in Seoul was remarkably productive, combining historical immersion with cultural discovery. Before touring the iconic Gyeongbokgung Palace, I visited a traditional Buddhist shop. Despite the language barrier, the shop owner introduced me to sacred Hanja scripts, providing a unique insight into Korea’s spiritual heritage and writing system.

I also spoke to a dedicated owner of an arts and crafts shop who shared the intricacies of inksticks and fine brushes. His shop resembled a curated gallery of traditional Korean artistry, with each product on the shelves telling a story of meticulous skill and deep-rooted tradition.

Seoul's streets are vibrant with stories: the procession of visitors in traditional hanbok at historic sites, the warm greetings exchanged, and the sense of belonging that transcends language barriers.

A few weeks ago, I attended a lecture by the therapist Gabor Maté. He spoke about several topics related to mental health, but what stood out to me the most was his insight on addiction. This inspired me to read more on the subject. I haven’t read his other books, but his book on addiction is one of the most well-written texts on the topic. I genuinely believe anyone interested in addiction should read it—whether they are researching for a friend, a family member, or for themselves.
