Literally blowing off the dust from my photography folders to make way for some 2023 scenery. I captured this scorching Queensland summer sunset in 2018 on a roll of Kodak 400 film, whilst gazing out from the bedroom window of my tiny Greenslopes apartment.

The last 2 days mark the peak of the geminids meteor shower this year, but due to my allergy to midgies on an island at night, I was unable to photograph them this year. To make up for my loss, here’s an oldie but a goodie that I have captured in Tekapo just before the Covid outbreak.

Eerie standstill - A shot from the end of 2019 at the international White Night art event, when crowds would gather stand within close proximity of each other. Little did we know times like these would come to a halt months later, along with home isolations and lockdowns, our normal lives forced into a standstill to face off spiky viral balls.

As time is swiftly flying-by, and we are almost reaching a year since Covid-19 outbreak and lockdowns, here's the strangest realisation I had during Australia's first lockdown. As a human, we have asserted ourselves in the world as a dominator and we are seemingly in the driving seat of the world, however, whilst we were locked in our suburban homes, did you hear the birds calling and flying across the horizon during the consistent hours of dusk and dawn, never missing a beat, just as the world rolls on regardless of us? We are not needed nor the primary driving force, but we are intelligent influencers that can help and share the world with other beings.

According to Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, organisms would possess heritable traits to adapt and ensure survival, and these White-capped Noddy Terns possess a special talent. They are able to drink saltwater and desalinate it by squeezing out salty drops through their nasal passages with repeated head nodding.

Australia Eastern Osprey spotted amongst the coastal branches by the Byron coast. They are also known as a fish hawk, as the name suggests, they feed mainly on medium-sized live fish. A fish hawk in hunting mode would fold its wings, then drops headlong, with its feet forward to sn**ch a fish with its talons. It may go right under the water for 1m under surface or sn**ch a fish from the surface, before lifting off again, with strong wing strokes.

There's a time to pounce and there's a time to rest. Sometimes rest come as a reward and taste a lot more satisfying once the target has been seized. 🦅

As fluffy as the clouds, this kookaburra has chosen a curved branch to call it a seat and a home territory. Kookaburras are terrestrial tree kingfishers of the genus Dacelo native to Australia and New Guinea, their distinctive “laugh” is actually warning other kookaburras to stay out of their territory.
