A humanoid AI robot will exhibit a series of 'self portraits' she created by 'looking' into a mirror with her camera eyes.

The robot - called Ai-Da after the 19th-century mathematician Ada Lovelace - is the first ultra-realistic robot capable of drawing people from life using her eye and a pencil in her hand, according to her creators.

Ai-Da's work will be displayed at the Design Museum in London between May and June - if lockdown rules allow.

Lovely series of self-portraits by artist exploring our "collective isolation"

“By mid-March (2020) as everything was grinding to a halt, I was struck by the opportunity this afforded me to paint a self-portrait that reflected the profound isolation and fear we all were all experiencing,” said Brown.

“I see my activity as a kind of psychoanalysis rather than a fetishization of my surroundings. By delving into the particulars of my environment, I hope to uncover truths about my own experience that I hope will speak to others,” said Brown. “Like (Sigmund) Freud, I believe in the unconscious. We access it through the things around us. Think of Proust and his madeleine (traditional small cake), whose infusion in a cup of tea evoked for him his childhood in Combray.” (Source-FORBES)

A great story about a self portrait saving an artist and creating a movement...

“I kind of lost everything,” Brunty said. “I started doing self-portraits and the little yeti, Yerman, came out. That was the first time I looked at a self-portrait and thought this is really, truly how I'm feeling right now. This is a really approachable way to my depression.”

“Yerman saved my life. I know it sounds cheesy or like a sound bite, but when it comes down to it, the self portrait is what kept me from not being here anymore,” Brunty said. “I have a better grip on my mental health now. Still, when I'm feeling down or anxious or like I can't win, I'll still go in the studio and draw or paint and that's what gets me out of my funk.

“Art therapy is a real thing. For me it's the biggest thing.”

Ryan Brunty's melancholy, vulnerable yeti, Yerman, has become a sensation locally and online. Now it's making its way to Hot Topic.

The 2017 Myself Prize winner is … Ellie Kammer for her self-portrait ‘Endometriosis (Quiescence)’. We are really proud to have this work as the winner of our second prize. Ellie is doing wonderful things in the art world with her honest and striking portraits in raising awareness about Endometriosis. Congratulations Ellie. Artist statement: 'Endometriosis (Quiescence) is the result of the artist finding peace after a major surgery to treat her chronic, incurable condition Endometriosis. This portrait explores the temporary peace and liberty the artist experienced post surgery when all of her disease was removed. Its a precious and fleeting moment as the disease will return.'
