It doesn’t feel right to go back to regular lovey dovey posting without acknowledging Bec and Aaron. They got married in May this year, and a week after I delivered their wedding photos in June, we found out Aaron had terminal cancer.
He chose to fight for more time, but sadly died only a few months later on November 27. The groom you see in these photos had absolutely no idea. No warning signs, nothing, just a guy in love with his beautiful new wife having the best day ever.
We were still in Tokyo at the time, so I tuned into the funeral on live stream. Bec is absolutely in love with their wedding photos, so it was no surprise to see a near total takeover of the obligatory funeral slideshow.
While it was a surreal experience to view photos I’d taken of friends not even a year ago now being shown at a funeral, it really drove home one thing. Photos are SO important. Even the ones that aren’t the most perfect, that aren’t “worthy” of posting online, or the ones where at first blush you don’t think you look your best. That could end up being the last precious moment you have captured of you and someone special.
So to every person who instinctively shies away from the camera, doesn’t want to spend the time getting photos done, or tells the photographer at a wedding “oh you don’t need a photo of ME,” please take the photo. Someone, someday, will need it more than you know.
