I absolutely LOVED this extended shoot with the Kerr family on their farm in Kerrisdale. A picturesque spot just a stones throw from my own property. What’s not to love about a well worn and tattered country porch seat where so many moments and memories are captured and stories told… sunshine, laughs and family banter mixed in with a few cheeky drinks, my kinda peeps!

Sometimes you have a moment when you realise why a camera was put in your hands. This was one of them. I met the beautiful Kate Wills at one of the most vulnerable moments in my life. With chemotherapy behind me and a body I didn’t recognise in front of me, Kate came into our home as one of my beautiful post surgery nurses. There’s no words that can explain the comfort found in having someone understand you, who has been you. But she did, and I could breathe. Kate is a fellow breast cancer warrior, she fights the fight. Her grace, strength, humour, love and positivity is beyond inspiring. Kate showed me there is light to be found in the darkest of places and I’m so proud to now call her a friend.

Kate’s beautiful daughter Willow was born in the peak of Covid and Kate started her long and gruelling treatment shortly after her birth. Breast cancer treatment can take so many normal things from us. Kate didn’t get the glowing maternity shoot or the option to capture the whimsical newborn haze. Life became an ugly blur of the necessities to survive. Four years later here they are, healthy, happy, hearts full, mama and daughter, bonded so deeply in a way most people will never understand, well I understand.

Kate and Willow still had one thing missing… photos. We can’t bring those missed milestones back or change our chapters to write a prettier story but we can capture the right now. My heart needed to give Kate and Willow these moments and memories and time. Out came the camera and it never felt so right to take a photograph. And as the years plod along with normal days and new milestones I hope they look at these photos and the many more to come and smile and remember that very moment in time together 💗
