Parachilna Stockman brought to life with the power of AI.
Everyone loves the iconic Parachilna Stockman, but seeing him beneath the incredible Milky Way gives this familiar Flinders Ranges landmark a whole new life. A little imagination, a little AI, and one of my favourite South Australian scenes transformed into something special.

Wildflowers of the Flinders Ranges, South Australia
After the recent rains, the Flinders Ranges have come alive with colour. Carpets of purple, yellow, green and silver spread across the normally rugged, dry landscape, with the ancient ranges providing a spectacular backdrop.
It’s amazing to see how quickly the outback can transform when the conditions are right — from red earth and hardy scrub to a landscape filled with wildflowers.
A beautiful side of the Flinders Ranges that you don’t get to see every year.

Chambers Gorge – Flinders Ranges, South Australia
The rugged beauty of Chambers Gorge, where an ancient watercourse winds its way through the spectacular red and ochre ranges of the northern Flinders.
But Chambers Gorge is much more than a beautiful landscape. The gorge is also an important Aboriginal cultural site, with ancient petroglyphs — designs engraved and pecked into the rock — created by Aboriginal people over generations. These remarkable engravings provide a tangible connection to the long Aboriginal history and culture of this country.
Recent rains have transformed the surrounding hills, bringing fresh greens and splashes of yellow to a landscape normally dominated by the rich earthy colours of the outback.
A place where ancient geology, Aboriginal culture and the beauty of the Flinders Ranges come together.

Ikara – Flinders Ranges, South Australia
A striking stone sculpture depicting Aboriginal hunters, set against the ancient landscape of the Flinders Ranges. The artwork is a reminder of the deep connection Aboriginal people have had with this country for thousands of years.
The Flinders Ranges are the traditional lands of the Adnyamathanha people, whose name is commonly explained as meaning “rock people” or “hill people.”
The Mill +1
A beautiful piece of artwork made even more impressive by the rugged ranges and green country stretching away behind it.

Wildflowers of the Flinders Ranges, South Australia
The Flinders Ranges showing off a completely different side after the recent winter rains.
Wildflowers and fresh green vegetation cover the plains, with splashes of orange stretching towards the rugged ranges in the distance. Low clouds still cling to the mountain tops, while patches of blue sky break through above.
Seeing this normally dry and rugged country so green and covered in wildflowers was something special.

Flinders Ranges from the Western Side, South Australia
A spectacular view across to the Flinders Ranges from the Outback Highway, looking east from the western side of the ranges.
After the recent rain, the normally dry outback country has been transformed. Fresh green growth spreads across the plains, contrasting beautifully with the rich red earth and rugged ranges in the distance. The creek winding through the foreground really shows how water has shaped this ancient landscape.
Under blue skies and scattered clouds, the colours of the Flinders were absolutely incredible.

Elder Range, Flinders Ranges, South Australia
Even under an overcast sky, the Elder Range puts on an impressive display. The heavy clouds bring out the deep reds, greens and rugged textures of the ancient ranges, creating a completely different mood from the usual sun-drenched Flinders landscape.
This panoramic view really needs to be seen BIG — click the full-screen/expand button on the photo, and if you're viewing on your phone, turn it sideways to take in the entire panorama.

Black Kite on the Hunt – Flinders Ranges, South Australia

A Black Kite flying low over the open country of the Flinders Ranges, its eyes fixed on the ground below as it searches for its next meal.

These skilled hunters spend a lot of time soaring and gliding while scanning the landscape for small animals, insects and carrion. Watching this one sweep low across the plains gave me the perfect opportunity to capture it with its wings fully extended and completely focused on the hunt.

Another great wildlife encounter in the Flinders Ranges.

Western Flinders Ranges, South Australia

The Flinders Ranges were looking spectacular after the recent rain. From above, the contrast between the rich red earth, fresh green vegetation and rugged mountain ranges really shows just how dramatically this ancient landscape can change.

A creek winds its way through the foreground while huge clouds drift across the ranges, creating constantly changing patches of sunlight and shadow over the mountains.

The Flinders Ranges at their colourful best.
