đź’› Today is Thank a First Responder Day. đź’›
It’s a reminder to pause and recognise the people who step forward when their communities need them most. Whether it’s responding to emergencies, supporting people through difficult moments, or helping keep our towns and communities safe, first responders continue to show up.
You often see the lights, the vehicles and the uniforms, but behind all of that are people. People with families, jobs, responsibilities and lives of their own, who choose to answer the call when it comes. Today we acknowledge the jobs attended that can’t be spoken about, the countless hours keeping others safe, the sacrifices, the training and teamwork, the dedication to make a difference every day.
To every first responder, thank you for showing up when it matters most, thank you for the time you give, your support and sacrifices. Thank you today and every day for your service. 🧡

Today I ticked off another bucket list location I heard about many years ago. 45 years to be precise from my school mate Greg Curovic. We made our way out to Python Pool and then deeper into the Millstream Chichester National Park. We ran out of time to get all the way in to George Gorge but it certainly has whet the whistle to get back.

Python Pool is nestled into the Chichester Range at the base of a season waterfall. The last time the waterfall flowed was back in February 2026. It is a stunning spot for a swim in a cool refreshing rock pool whilst enjoying the spectacular backdrop of the imposing rugged ochre cliffs.

The George River is a river in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The river was named on 16 July 1861 by the surveyor and explorer Frank Gregory, who was conducting an expedition in the area. It is not known after whom he named the river.

The track to George River is a lot of fun. Its nothing insane, but if you are a novice 4WD owner its probably going to push the friendship a bit. The track is narrow in sections, and has a number of smaller creek crossings, before getting to one main creek bed, and then the gorge. There’s a heap of rocky sections, with it being sharper limestone style rock, and eventually moving to thousands of river rocks that move around as you drive over them.

You can bring campers and smaller Hybrid type vans in, not sure I would bring our AOR Matrix in, but certainly possible with the appropriate care taken.

The colours of the Millstream Chichester National Park are nothing short of magical.

Also managed to get some Hema Maps Alpha Kms in the system today. i

It was an enjoyable day walking on country of the Ngarluma and Yindjibarndi people as the Traditional Owners of Millstream Chichester National Park.

If you haven’t made the effort to get out to the Kalbarri Skywalk before dawn then it is a must do for any visitor to the Kalbarri region. The change of colours as the sun rises is amazing with the mighty Murchison flowing below us was an amazing site.

Kalbarri is home to the traditional owners the Nhanda (or Nanda) people, also known as the saltwater people, who have a deep spiritual connection to the land and sea.

The Nanda people have lived in the Northampton-Kalbarri region for thousands of years. Their traditional country includes the town of Kalbarri, Kalbarri National Park, and surrounding areas.

In the central Dreamtime story a serpent called Beemarra, created the Murchison River and its surrounding waterways while traveling toward the coast.

The area features numerous sites with high cultural significance, including the Kalbarri National Park, which contains over 200 Aboriginal heritage sites such as campsites, paintings, and middens. The name “Kalbarri” itself is derived from the name of an Aboriginal man from the Nanda tribe, and also refers to an edible seed.

You can find all the information regarding the Kalbarri National Park on the Hema Maps “Midwest” map. A great companion to your travels.

On the 6th May 1991 the Hoodoo Gurus released the single 1000 Miles Away.

This song if not in my top 3 favourites is definitely in the Top 10. Think about that.....35 years ago!! When you think 35 years before 1991 it was 1956!!!

This song is not only about physical distance from friends and family but also emotional distance.

The song was adopted by the Australian warship HMAS Canberra as its anthem. The guided missile frigate was decommissioned on 12 November 2005 after 24 years and 841165 nautical miles.

If you get a chance today, get your record player, cassette or CD out and give it a spin

Photography Friends!

Did I lend you my Joby Gorilla Pod? Or have one I could possibly borrow for the SW Open next weekend for my Go Pro that I wish to mount on a post at the golf club to get a time lapse?

Yesterday we did a Urban Portraits workshop with Seng Mah from Venture Photography Workshops and Tours yesterday....considering I thought we were doing a Street Photography workshop, I thoroughly enjoyed it....portraits aren't really my thing. Was great learning new skills and the three things I learnt:

1. Lighting
2. Background
3. Posing

Thanks to Seng and to the three models we had Lana, Doug and Caitlin!

📸 Something I’ve Been Working On…
At the start of 2025, I’d pretty much lost interest in photography. No spark, no motivation, no real desire to pick up a camera.
Then, while stripping the house out for painting, I found my old X100S. I figured I’d give myself a small challenge:
take a photo a day — or at least carry the camera and make the effort.
I didn’t shoot every single day, but having the camera with me meant I started noticing moments I’d normally miss… the simple stuff that ends up buried on a phone and forgotten.
Bit by bit, the enjoyment came back.
At the end of the year, I decided to pull everything together into my first photo book in six years. Nothing fancy — just something real, something I can look back on, and something the boys might appreciate one day as a snapshot of life as it was.
It feels good to be creating again.
