π More than 50 junior rugby league teams visited Charleville on the weekend to compete in the Adrian Vowles Cup.
The tournament was created by Murweh Shire Mayor Shaun βZoroβ Radnedge and former professional footballer Adrian Vowles in 2014.
Cr Radnedge said the same values he and Mr Vowles grew up with are instilled in the AV Cup.
βWhen you travel, you travel together as friends but if teams were short, we all jumped in and we all played. This is exactly what we encourage," Cr Radnedge said.
Queensland Rugby League CEO Ben Ikin said the tournament helps overcome the geographical and logistical challenges of playing rugby league outside the city.
βTo be able to hold carnivals like this allows kids from the bush to get more footy than they normally would,β Mr Ikin said.
He said the setting, the experience and boosting the local economy was a positive mix.
βI think all those ingredients wrapped up together make this thing brilliant.β
