For those of you who may not know but have seen a few posts here and there - Our little girl Orla was born 2 months ago on 4/10/25. She was born still/unresponsive and needed extensive CPR. Due to a true knot in my umbilical cord, Orla experienced a severe HIE event which in short means she was without oxygen for a period of time that lead to numerous seizures post birth and has resulted in a serious brain injury.
We spent 5.5 weeks with her in PCH NICU.
Orlas future as a whole is unknown, however she will likely have significant disabilities and difficulties with development. She does not have “typical” newborn reflexes, has only just started crying briefly and is currently NG tube dependent as her suck/swallow/gag reflex is also absent.
This has been an extremely overwhelming, heartbreaking and exhausting experience for myself, Tom, Orla and of-course our beautiful big babies Preston and Henley. The support from our family and friends has been incredible and I don’t think we will ever be able to show how truly appreciative we are for each and every person who has supported, helped and held us so far through all of this.
We have a really hard journey ahead, the adjustment to home life has been horrifically confronting and overwhelming. We hope that sharing Orlas story brings awareness of our situation and would like to encourage people not to avoid us and ask any questions to help understand better what we are experiencing. As i’m sure you can appreciate I will be taking a break from my business until further notice. 🤍
