Sometimes when you look at how life stacks up it’s hard to imagine how things ended up the way they are yet sure enough there they right in front of your eyes.

We spent the whole day driving around Wilpattu national park in Sri Lanka, our guides looking hard to try and find a leopard. We did spot one in the end as the sun was going down, it was lying on the sand far off the track in the distance and soon afterwards we had to start the mad rush back out of the park before the gates were closing. We saw many other species that day and most much closer, such as this beautiful Sri Lankan Serpent Eagle. Life is everywhere and often we can miss or overlook it even when it’s looking us right in the eye. The more I see life in all its forms the more beautiful my world becomes. Wonder too, lives in the eyes of the beholder.

Travel, for us it’s about venturing into the unknown and making connections. Connecting with nature, with wildlife and ofcourse with people from a different walk of life. That’s why we choose to travel even though it might be tougher than staying home and learning what you need to about the world by searching online or watching something. Travel is for those of us who want to experience the unknown in the most authentic and immersive way possible, by becoming part of the places we visit, through our connections we become one with the world around us. Travel helps us grow and expand who we are, it helps us to understand who we are because after all it’s only by our connections and through our experiences that we can come to know ourselves.

Our time in Sri Lanka started with a connection at a restaurant one night in the Maldives where we met Victor and his wife who invited us to stay with them. This kickstarted a month of adventures with many more beautiful connections that would ne made. We explored vibrant rainforests jungles and plains rich with wildlife and ancient ruins that served as meeting points for people throughout the ages and continued to do so today. We had some amazing home stay experiences where locals took us in and were so genuine in sharing their lives, culture and homes with us that we felt a part of it all. We had many magical moments where curious creatures allowed us to join them in their worlds too.

Travel, it’s good for the soul and part of life.

After a long and hot afternoon birdwatching at the Marlgu Billabong below we climbed up the hill to explore an abandoned broadcasting station and small settlement. Time had long eroded much of the station and it was now only the large boab trees which still stood proud up on the hill. As always our adventures lead us onwards until we shared a special moment with a wild friend as we contemplated the view conversing without words with this beautiful wedge tailed eagle.
