A stylish Robert “Nat” Young accepting his win in an early 2SM/Coke Surfabout Event in Sydney. After his 1966 World Title win in California until well into the 1970’S Nat was the gold standard of surfing, not just in Australia but around the world. Nat reinvented himself in the 1980’S winning 4 World Longboard Titles between 1986 and 1990, still surfing brilliantly on both shortboards and longboards , he remains one of surfings most powerful and enduring figures. A younger Gary “Kong” Elkerton at Burleigh Heads during the early1980’S Gary burst onto the scene from home grounds on the Sunshine Coast and along with “Rabbit” Bartholomew and Chappy Jennings featured in the Hoole/McCoy Films short “Kong’s Island” which became a cult classic. Gary followed up with Tour wins in Hawaii and as a Quiksilver sponsored young gun had a big impact throughout his professional career. Now enjoying retirement living in Bali still chasing classic surf conditions whenever they arrive.

A classic cutback of Wayne Dean at Kirra showing Michael Peterson (RIP) what a CLASSIC cutback at Kirra looks like. Wayne was also very proficient on a longboard featuring in Chris Bystrom’s (RIP) modern longboard films, a standout surfer on all equipment one of the Gold Coast’s favourite sons.

It”s been a year since Jack McCoy (RIP) passed away leaving behind a body of his life’s work amounting to 25 surfing films that have entertained the worlds surfing audience for over 50 years. Jack outside the Opera House for the screenings of our first film “Tubular Swells” in 1976. His work that he devoted his life to will be treasured by the audiences that Jack entertained. Learning the craft from Bruce Brown (RIP) and Greg Macgillivray , we all share the huge loss with his family that the passing of time hasn’t healed.

Gold Coast surfing LEGEND Mickey Stafford (RIP) was one of the early pioneers of surfing on the Gold Coast. The son of Paula Stafford famous for introducing the Bikini swimwear design well ahead of her time, an early member of Windansea Surf Club remembered for his exceptional surfing ability and being a CLASSIC character in and out of the water.
