Cold night wh***ey bar with no amount.
It’s all so simple till the fire runs out.
A whisper glides the night sky to tell the winds exactly where to fly.
To ignite the embers in a young mans heart and mind.
To drop the chains and the games and let go of the hurting.
One thing’s for certain,no calling the curtain.
The devil’s still running but his best season’s over.
walking lobby’s with pockets full of clovers.

This piece was nearly abandoned..
I had no vision in mind for what I was going to paint.
no sketch, no under drawing, all I knew i had to do was throw paint at the canvas and ask questions later.
This vague form started to appear but I wasn’t connecting with it yet, nothing was pulling me in, right before i painted over the whole thing to start from scratch I smeared her face that was originally looking the other way then this face appeared and then all of a sudden this women had a whole life on her face, and i wanted to know evrything about her so i kept going and this is where we got.

I picture this woman dancing in a lover’s bedroom or something, fuelled by a French red and ci******es.

Only upon writing this, did it occur to me that this has a double-meaning.

One being a deep conviction in someone’s faith in a higher power for a beauty grace, another is the feeling of being convicted against your wrongdoings, but still lead you to hope in restoration.

Condemnation can only come from the work of man
Conviction is the word of god.

Both of these point to the same thing, each is at a different phase of one’s journey. Wherever you are, follow his conviction.

The greatest strength a man can possess is knowing when not to use it.
Kea was commissioned to honour the masculine archetype at its truest, not the warrior who knows only force, but the one who holds both edges of himself with equal mastery.

The capacity to be hard and soft. Fierce and tender. Ancient and present.

Executed in oil on a live-edge red cedar slab harvested from a fallen tree at Mallanganee, NSW, the timber becomes part of this story of humanity.

Kea is not a portrait of one man. It is a portrait of what becomes possible in all men.

I made this in a time of a big changes, some chaos and uncertainty in my life that left me to step up, sit and the fire and grow into a new version of myself.

Growth can can be messy, uncomfortable, unpredictable in the short term but with a strong mission and direction it kept me in gratitude the whole way through, that word gets throw around alone I really felt and understood the calm confidence that gratitude brings.

This piece is a way of saying thank you instead of why me.

A couple months ago I nearly shut Alchemy down. Burnt out, overworked, not enjoying any of it.

So I got moving. Different cities, new faces, laptops open in cafes and apartments and cars and beaches. No fixed address, no fixed schedule.

Somewhere in between karaoke with Europeans at a surf camp and quiet foggy sunrises in rural farm towns I remembered why I started. The spark of adventure, The freedom to work from anywhere wasn’t a perk. It was the whole point.
Came back to the business with fresh eyes. Stripped everything back. Rebuilt it the way it should have been from the start.
