The famous Miyajima Torii Gate (Japan's largest). What the tide denied me in an early morning photo, it paid back at night. It's a beautiful sight seeing this float upon the water. β˜ΊπŸ™

Back home now (Australia). Please indulge me one last photo. I had driven myself to the lakeshore in Kawaguchiko around 4am; not knowing how clear the sky might be. While it was effectively pitch black, I could make out some stars and the faintest outline of ice to suggest my hope and optimism wasn't misplaced. What a long exposure on a tripod then revealed to my eyes was nothing short of epic. Capturing and being in the presence of this majestic sentinel was, indeed, a special moment. Hope you enjoy πŸ™

Being first up in a cable car, and moving with determination, opens a small window in which the Great Wall has no other people. It was a beautiful morning and so peaceful - for about 1 hour. πŸ˜±πŸ€—

Beijing - much more multi-faceted, eclectic, and liberal-minded than I had anticipated. Honestly, I could have been in any western city in the world. As long as you stick to the rules, and show respect, there will be no problem. Food and entertainment was SO good. Trains and people very easy to like. Here are a couple of snaps. Great Wall to come. πŸ€—πŸ™

UNESCO World Heritage Listed, Zhangjaijie National Forest Park is understood to have inspired β€˜Avatar’. This place is magnificent in both sunny and rainy/cloudy weather. I walked and climbed a lot, although it has cable cars and elevators for the really tough stuff. It reminded me of Yosemite in the US in scale and feel. πŸ€—πŸ™

Fenghuang (or Phoenix) Ancient Town - legend has it that two phoenix were flying overhead and found the place so beautiful and tranquil, they decided to stay here. My feeling is they must have arrived before about 4pm because the night rocks with restaurants, night illuminations, and people just loving it all. And why not?! There’s a touristy feel, but it’s such a relaxed and quiet place that you can roam easily among the many alleys and along the river front during the day. πŸ€—

Off the beaten track, Wangxian Valley Town is an abandoned granite quarry turned by the Chinese into a beautiful, fairytale-like landscape - particularly by night. I marvel at the vision, engineering prowess, and lighting. Its commercial value to the region is important, but there was nothing vulgar or hard-sell in wandering around and enjoying the craft shops and food on offer that was all VERY reasonably priced. πŸ€—πŸ™

Shanghai - it’s easy to enjoy the bright lights, food and shopping, but my enduring memory will be how modern, clean and liveable this city seems on a day-to-day basis. πŸ₯°

Shanghai - surely one of the great cities. So easy to get around. Great architecture, beautiful gardens and infrastructure. I spent 2 hours cycling the paths along this river. Stunningly beautiful. Food and vibe quite wonderful. Visited the French Concession and cycled the streets. More to come. πŸ€—
