Life has felt a little fragile lately, and I just wanted to say thank you for your support and understanding.

Not every season is easy, but we fight for the ones we love, don’t we?

Your kind messages, patience, and quiet support have meant so much. It’s a good reminder that even in the heavier moments, there’s still so much kindness around.

There’s always a special kind of fun when a session has more than three dogs involved.

Is it a little chaotic? Usually.

Is someone probably going to do the exact opposite of what we planned? Also usually.

But that’s half the fun.

I love seeing all the different personalities come through. The cheeky one, the serious one, the one who just wants treats, the one who acts like they’re managing the whole session.

And somehow, once they’re all together, it just feels like them.

One of the things I care about most in my work is that your photos don’t just live on a screen.

They become part of your home.

The portrait you walk past every morning. The album you pull out when you want to remember a season properly. The framed piece that makes you smile because it feels so much like them.

Pet photography is about capturing your dog as they are, but printed artwork is what lets you keep coming back to that feeling.

That’s why I guide my clients through the whole process, from the session itself to choosing pieces that actually suit their home and their heart.

Canberra really gave us such a lovely spring last year.

The gardens, the light, the dogs being their usual happy selves. I’ve been looking back through some of these sessions and the photos are far too good not to share.

It also reminded me why I love projects like Barking Beautiful so much and why I do them. These seasons with our dogs can feel so ordinary while we’re in them, but they become the memories we want to hold onto later.

We’re heading into winter in Canberra, which means colder mornings, earlier sunsets, and a lot more cosy days at home.

And while outdoor sessions are still beautiful this time of year, studio sessions are such a lovely option if you want something warm, calm, and weather-proof.

They’re especially great for dogs who are older, anxious, easily distracted, or just prefer a quieter space. No wind, no rain, no muddy paws, and no rushing before the light disappears.

So if you’ve been thinking about booking a session but the cold weather has been putting you off, the studio might be the perfect fit.

I always knew that our dogs don’t get to live as long as us, but knowing this doesn’t mean that it gets easier when it comes to that time.

For me that time is now getting closer. I posted recently about James’ cancer diagnoses. We were scheduled for surgery on Wednesday morning and we had a pre-surgical consult the day before. After talking to the surgeon the surgery to remove the cancer is going to be bigger than I initially thought. They would have to remove James’ entire bottom jaw. The thought of having to put him through this major radical mandibulectomy was making me felt not right. Even though the surgeon said that dogs usually recover well and adapt , it would be a lot to put James through this. And yes it would remove the cancer and the pain and maybe give him 1-2 years of more time with him. But I would have been doing it for me not just for him.

So I had to come to the most difficult decision to not go ahead with the surgery and spend the time, however long that is, I have left with James. To give him the best time of his life, to enjoy lots of walks and sniffs, the yummiest food and just giving him lots of love.

It means that my focus will be on him and there may be some delays in processing clients orders and photographs. I’m looking at rebooking appointments I’ve had to move this week, and I will still be able to do shoots but just bare in mind there may be times where I would have to prioritise being with James.

Thank you for looking after Rosie and Pippa. Thank you to those who have checked in on me and just sat there with me on the phone while I processed my emotions. My session with Rupert, Obi and Lady 🤍

One of my favourite parts of this job is when clients come back years later and trust me to photograph the next chapter too.

I first photographed Obi and Lady back in 2023, and this time there was a new addition to the family. Rupert.

Lauren described Rupert as playful, talkative, sassy, and completely obsessed with his ball. Very much a mummy’s boy too. Even after a rough start in life, he’s settled into the family so beautifully.

Obi is the sweetest boy and part of the Rainbow Paws program as he starts his journey as a therapy dog. Lady might be the smallest in the house, but definitely has the biggest heart. Always close by and very much Obi’s number one fan.

It was so nice seeing them all again and documenting this new season for their family.

You know when a dog and their human just feel like they belong together?

The way they are bonded. The connection that they have. Even if they don’t speak the same language they still understand each other. Like they’ve somehow found each other in this life and made perfect sense together.

That’s what I love most about photographing dogs and their humans. It’s not just about a beautiful portrait. It’s about capturing the feeling between them.

Barking Beautiful is for the women and dogs who share that kind of connection. The kind that can be hard to explain, but so easy to feel when you see them together. It’s a fine art portrait book project that is focused on capturing the connection between women and their dog and sharing their story.

I think sometimes people hear “story” and feel like it has to be something huge.

But it doesn’t.

Sometimes it’s just the dog who made everyday life feel better. The one who sat with you while you worked from home, followed you into every room, made you laugh when you were having a rough day, or quietly kept you company when you needed it most.

Barking Beautiful is a fine art portrait project about women and the dogs who have been part of their lives in a really real way. Not always big or dramatic, but steady, familiar, and deeply loved. The stories and portraits will be compiled into a book, but more than that I'm looking for people who truly want artwork and tangible keepsake of their dog.

My session with Nola and Luna 🤍

After losing their two older dogs, the pawrent and her family decided they were ready to welcome dogs back into the house again.

That’s how Nola and Luna came along.

The house feels different again with dogs around. More movement, more noise, more little moments throughout the day that make everyone laugh without even trying.

These two were so much fun to photograph. Curious about everything, always checking in with each other, and very clearly loved by their whole family.
