I ran the SRF30, a 30km ultra trail race at Stromlo Running Festival. My first time at this distance!
Ive already posted this on my personal page, but this post has all the pics and is my commitment to running more, travelling more, and using the excuse of “I’ve signed up to this race in this place!” To see and travel new exotic locations. Right now I’ve committed to running some of the major Australian marathons and trail races, and the I’ll be looking abroad. Maybe even an Abbott’s Major?! (Looking at you Tokyo/London 👀). Realistically I’m more likely to secure a spot in somewhere like Osaka, Dublin, Reykjavik, etc. One day, I’ll be looking at getting into Ultra Trail Mont Blanc!
On this event, the SRF30, I had to push deeper than I’ve ever had to before and this was probably the hardest physical thing I’ve ever done so far. My legs completely rebelled in the last 3km, the vertical incline was 868m and around every corner, another huge hill. I was running solo and forgot my earbuds (no audiobook! 😭), and only a month out from a hamstring tear.
Running distances is a great way to practise Stoicism. To realise that you can push yourself so much farther than you think, and when you want to give up and you push through you learn a lot about yourself.
Crossing the line wasn’t speed, or strength - it was resolve.
Just a reminder that limits aren’t fixed. You break them by showing up, suffering honestly, and refusing to quit when it feels like you can’t go on.
I just have so much respect for people running ultra 50km, 100km and more. One day I hope I can demonstrate the grit and resolve to match one of these endurance athletes!
My next event is the Kosci30, a 32km race with 650m vert, on 27th of November, so expect another running motivation post whether you want it or not!
