Firstly, thanks for taking the time to check out my photography page.
My name is Laura and I am The Candid Photographer. It is a simplistic branding which I came up with in early 2018. I wanted something which best represents me and the type of photography I am passionate about.
‘The’ establishes a distinctive and definitive title. I find it sets the tone of a unique powerfulness to my photography.
As I consider myself an honest person, I did not want to falsify my photography and thus I felt the word ‘Candid’ was appropriate in the title. I did not want to stage shots. I want my photos to be raw, with minimal edits. I do my best to capture the world around us in its natural state.
What style of photography?
All. However, I love to be outdoors and get lost behind the lens and for that reason landscape photography is my favourite.
Sometimes it feels like life stands still and allows you a moment to get lost in the elements around you, using them to your advantage to capture something truly remarkable. I follow the path less travelled. I push through the bush to the depths of nature where the sunlight can barely reach and to the peeks in which the wind howls and bodies of water sparkle below.
In contrast, I have done some maternity, wedding and family photography for friends and family. I enjoy learning new photography techniques and working with people to ensure I stay true to my Candid style when performing such styles of photography.
What’s in store for the future?
I would like to study photography one day.
I am not sure whether photography will ever be my ‘career’ as I have developed an environmental profession which I am also passionate about but I may be able to incorporate the two one day.
I love fungi. Yes, that makes me a ‘fun-gi’ of sorts (sorry had to write that, ha ha). A project on the horizon is to use my Australian fungi field guide and venture out to find fungi and document it through photography. I expect this project will expand my knowledge on fungi and produce some unique photos which I case showcase to the broader public.
