I remember that day when those leeches were sucking my blood and I was unaware it. I was busy picking some water lilies with my younger brother. He showed me those fat big leeches on the side of my upper leg. Crying all the way, when I reached home my father helped me remove them from my body. That was the first day I learned how forcefully leeches can suck blood.
I had to work as a housemaid in my teenage years. My father was a labourer so for him it was almost impossible to earn enough to feed our 6-member family. Sometimes we had to starve when my father was not able to go to work during the rainy season. So my mother decided to send me to a rich villager to work as a housemaid so that at least I could feed my own stomach.
I had to work there during the whole day and evening until bedtime at night. Sometimes, they even woke me up from my sleep to do even more work. No one cared about my sleep, only their own. The amount of work I had to do is impossible to describe. Every evening I used to sit beside my ma'am so that when the electricity went off, her young son couldn’t touch my private parts. They never paid me for my labour but they had promised my father that they would give the dowry when I would marry. But they didn't give the dowry so then my father brought me back from that house after knowing the story of my torture and abuse. He had to marry me off by selling his only land to pay my dowry and to save me from the gangster man in our village who wanted to marry me even for one night.
My husband took a loan of 1 lack taka from the owner of our factory without my consent. Now to repay that loan he brought me here to work in this factory.
I am six months pregnant and going through a very problematic period. Last month when I went to the doctor, he said I shouldn't work anymore otherwise I might have a miscarriage. But I have to work! I have to work from early morning to late at night. Even right now I am working extra hours because my doctor said to meet him again after 2 months. To meet with my doctor, I need 300 taka every time! I don't know how I will manage that amount of money! Everything I earn (less than a dollar a day) goes to repay our loan. I don't know how I will repay this full loan; I do not know if this loan will ever be paid or not! During my whole my life my father had continued to save me from all problems. I feel very helpless nowadays after his death and I miss him every single day. I believe if my father would be alive, he would save me from this world full of leeches.
