🎶 Alan Menken in Concert at the Sydney Event Theatre

Wow. What a night to remember.

We were treated to something truly special: the opportunity to hear the musical genius that is Alan Menken perform live, right before our eyes.

Like so many of us, I grew up with his music. His songs have been the soundtrack to our childhoods and the heart of some of Disney's most beloved films. But this wasn't just a spectacular concert - it was a journey through Alan's life.

Through stories, music and personal photos, we learned about Alan as a young Jewish boy growing up in a family of dentists. Yet even then, he knew he was creative and wanted to follow a different path.

That part of his story resonated deeply with me. Some people seem to know from a young age that they are meant to create. There is an inner drive that pushes them/us to dream bigger, to imagine more, and to pursue a life that feels authentic to them/us. Alan's story was a reminder that sometimes you have to be brave enough to find your own "part of your world" and trust where that path leads.

Listening to him speak about his family, career and the people who shaped his journey was every bit as inspiring as hearing the music itself. It was a testament to what can happen when you have the courage to follow your dreams...

I was completely captivated. I could have listened to him talk and play for hours. Watching him perform song after song - many written decades ago - while effortlessly remembering every note and lyric was nothing short of extraordinary.

And did I mention he is 76 years old?

By the end of the evening, I was left in absolute awe. It felt like such a privilege to witness the man whose music has invited generations of us into "a whole new world" of imagination, wonder and possibility, and inspired us all to "go the distance" in pursuit of our own dreams.

Thank you, Alan, and everyone who helped bring this unforgettable experience to Sydney. What a magical evening.

🎭 Tootsie the Musical - Now playing at the Teatro at the Italian Forum, Leichhardt, Sydney

Michael Dorsey is a 40-year-old actor down on his luck. After auditioning endlessly without success, he grows increasingly bitter and negative, pushing away friends and colleagues alike. But when he finally lands a role in an upcoming production, his world is turned upside down. His pessimism gives way to positivity, and suddenly everyone wants to be his friend. Of course, the hilarious complications that follow lead to plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.

I loved all the clever jokes and puns throughout the show, and Andrew Bevis playing Michael/Dorothy Michaels/Tootsie captured the charm and comedic brilliance that Dustin Hoffman brought to "Tootsie" in the original film. I also loved Elenoa Rokobaro, whom I remember from Hadestown, as Juliet. Her sweet, beautiful voice was a delight to hear.

The entire cast was outstanding, and I left the theatre with a huge smile on my face.

Thank you for the invitation to this hilarious and heartwarming production about believing in yourself, embracing change, and discovering the power of personal transformation and redemption.

PS It was my first time at the Teatro and it is a great theatre, very intimate. Support this new small company!

Chloe Zhao talk at Vivid Sydney

From a young age, creativity wasn’t just a hobby for me - it was a necessity. If a pursuit wasn't creative, it simply didn't hold my interest. Standard school subjects and sports never quite resonated; my mind was always elsewhere, chasing stories.

By 15, my passion solidified: I wanted to become a film director. As a lifelong cinephile, storytelling felt like my natural calling. Yet, as a teenager with zero industry connections, the path forward felt completely invisible.

When I finished the HSC at 18, I took a leap and applied for a prestigious, highly competitive filmmaking course - 900 applicants competing for just 30 spots. I’ll let you guess how that went. Facing the reality of an industry that, at the time, felt heavily gatekept and lacked representation for women of colour, I pivoted.

Stepping away from film meant facing a blank canvas, but returning to a conventional path was never an option. I knew I couldn’t simply default to becoming a doctor, lawyer, accountant, engineer, IT professional, or teacher - the traditional career blueprints so many Asian parents envision for their children. My drive was inherently creative, and I needed to honor that. So, over the next decades, I focused my energy on navigating various other fields across the creative and media landscape.

Fast forward to this week: Chloé Zhao in Sydney. Hearing her speak at the State Theatre for Vivid Sydney was an opportunity I couldn't miss. To see a woman of colour achieve global acclaim, winning two Academy Awards for Best Director in such a short span of time, is nothing short of incredible.

I left the talk completely in awe. Beyond her immense talent, it is her humility, profound philosophy on life, and articulate presence that truly captivate you. She speaks with such clarity, intention, and wisdom - I could have listened to her for hours.

Hearing her reflect on her childhood, her memories, and her path as a self-described non-conformist deeply resonated with me. Her message was clear: we don’t have to replicate anyone else's blueprint. The most powerful choice we can make is to trust our own intuition.

Come Alive! The Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular is now on under the Big Top at Sydney's Entertainment Quarter

The Greatest Showman is one of my favourite movies of all time (with the most amazing soundtrack) so I couldn't wait to check out this amazing new show at Sydney's

I wasn't really sure what to expect but I'd describe it as part circus, part concert and part musical.. there's were amazing acts, singing, dancing and acting.. a bit of everything!

It was an incredible night out. There are photo ops, amazing merch, food stalls and toilets without lengthy queues (IYKYK ladies 😝).

I'd recommend wearing boots as it can be muddy with the rain.

On now until 8 Aug 2026

Thank you so much for the invitation to the premiere of this spectacular circus.

🎭 Steel Magnolias, the play - Now playing at the Theatre Royal, Sydney

Steel Magnolias, now playing at Sydney’s Theatre Royal, is a moving portrait of female friendship and the quiet strength found in close-knit bonds. Set in the small Louisiana town of Chinquapin, it follows a group of women who gather regularly at the local beauty salon to share laughter, gossip, and the everyday highs and lows of life.

When one of them becomes seriously ill, the group is forced to confront the depth of their connection and what it truly means to show up for someone in their most vulnerable moments. What begins as warm, witty camaraderie gradually unfolds into something far more profound and deeply affecting.

Written by Robert Harling, the play is drawn from his own lived experience and inspired by his relationship with his mother and sister, giving the story an unmistakable sense of authenticity and emotional truth. Later adapted into the much-loved film and now back into a play, it continues to resonate with audiences for its balance of humour, heartbreak, and humanity.

It is a deeply poignant and heartwarming piece of theatre - both joyful and devastating in equal measure. As a mother, I found it especially moving and relatable, and it stayed with me long after the curtain fell. Bring tissues- this one truly earns them.

Thank you for this invitation to most touching, moving play about the friendship between women.

🎭 The Happiest Man on Earth (the life of Eddie Jaku OAM) - Now playing at the Playhouse, Sydney Opera House

Ever since spending time living in Europe, I’ve found myself deeply drawn to the stories of World War II - something that had never particularly interested me before. Standing in places where history unfolded changes your perspective. While the horrors of that period are impossible to comprehend fully, what continues to stay with me are the extraordinary stories of ordinary people: individuals who endured unimaginable cruelty yet somehow emerged with humanity, resilience and even hope intact.

Eddie Jaku is one of those people. Australia is incredibly fortunate to have called him our own. At the age of 100, in 2020, Eddie published his autobiography, which went on to become a New York Times bestseller, sharing not only the brutality he survived, but also his unwavering belief in kindness, gratitude and joy. This production, starring the amazingly talented Anton Berezin, brings that remarkable story to the stage with both sensitivity and emotional power.

What struck me most was the extraordinary performance of the solo actor, whose ability to transport the audience through Eddie’s memories was nothing short of captivating. With only minimal costumes and sparse staging, he vividly recreated moments of fear, heartbreak, survival and hope, holding the theatre completely still. It’s the kind of performance that reminds you how powerful storytelling can be when stripped back to its essentials.

This is more than a historical play. It’s a deeply human story about survival, love, endurance and the refusal to let darkness extinguish compassion. Whether you have a personal interest in the experiences of Jewish people during World War II or are simply drawn to stories of courage and resilience, this is a production that lingers long after the curtain falls.

And yes - bring lots of tissues.

Thank you for the invitation to most deeply moving play about courage, survival and never giving up.
