Ex-Tropical Cyclone Seth has been dumping rain on us all day, so I was confident of finding at least one frog in the backyard tonight, and I was not disappointed.

This delightful Red-eyed Treefrog (Litoria Chloris) was happily sitting in the backyard, occasionally croaking when I found it and organised a photoshoot for its portfolio ;-)

I spied some adult king parrots in the trees nearby, so put out a little seed for them, and to our delight, some juvenile male king parrots coming in to their adult plumage turned up too.

Also off in the distance, a new bird for me, the White-bellied Cuckoo-shrike.

Since it's clearly a small bird day, here's a Peaceful Dove. These tiny doves grow to 19-24cm (beak to tail), and are (with the Diamond Dove) the smallest in Australia.

We get them on the driveway and occasionally the veranda.

This morning's tiny bird, is this male Variegated Fairywren I spied hopping amongst the bushes beside the house.

Look who was pipping loudly on my clothesline this morning. A Striated Pardalote.

These guys make a loud "cheep .... cheep cheep" call so are easily identified, but not always easy to spot (the call itself being one of those that is difficult to locate, and they're very small).

Sad news today, as we found out Bob Johnson passed away. Bob was a legend on the Caloundra Music Festival main stage. He ran a tight ship and was a consumate professional.

Today is World Wetlands Day.

Wetlands are a vital niche in the environment, with many animals and birds using these areas to survive and flourish. A prime example of this is the Lara Wetlands near Barcaldine, QLD. These wetlands are situated in Central west Queensland, amongst some pretty dry and arid terrain. The wetlands there provide an oasis for birds of many species, not just those traditionally associated with wetlands.
Take this White-plumed Honeyeater for instance. Usually a woodland bird, they were in abundance at Lara.

If we are to keep the bird diversity we have in this country, protecting wetlands is critical.

The Crimson Rosella has been visiting of late. This morning there was also a juvenile trying for some seed too (but the adult wasn't having any of that).

We had 9 King Parrots on the veranda this morning, then then there were none, when a cockatoo turned up, but by then the parrots had eaten all the seed, so the cockatoo left.

This female King Parrot is just chillin' in a nearby tree now.

I shall call this one, Mr Fluffy McFluff-face. (In cockatoo it's pronounced Screeeeeeeech!)

He dropped in this morning before I left for work, presumably not for a portrait, but that's what he got.
