The Major Mitchell is now officially known as ‘The Pink C**katoo’? (and has been since 2023)

Why? Well, that Mitchell fella was not a nice man…looking back in history he did some pretty awful things to our first Australians…

In our opinion, someone like that should never have had their name allocated yo or honoured by such a spectacular (or any) species. Sounds like a C**k or two let that happen! 😂

Anyhoo, here’s to rewriting history we say!

So this Ol' Girl got the Ol' Rona so what does she do.......She Edit's.
So get ready to enjoy the backlog of images about to come your way folks 😂

This little bird series here is from one of our little Nature Nerd weekend adventures up to O'Reillys back in November last year with the gang.
Filled with Birds, Food, Day & Night Walks, Good People and all things Nature.

Longing for days/weekends like these again.
Surrounded by nature and beautiful landscapes all the while sharing it with awesome like-minded people.
There's no medicine quiet like it would you agree?

Take me back!!

I’ve been saying for some time that i feel i dont see anywhere near as many Sulphur Crested C**katoos as i used too.
Then i went to Macleay Island last week and was greeted with an abundance of different species of birds absolutely thriving and in their elements.
These guys being one of them.
Each morning i watched as 3 pairs of them would arise and settle for the day in the hollows of this giant big gum tree across the street.
I was amazed at the amount of old gums scattered around the island that had many hollows occupied.
Mostly by the Sulphurs. But i did find some Lorikeets, Galahs, Corella’s and Bee’s making use of them too.
And with the amount of Wood Ducks on the island, i would say they too have been calling them home.
My mission while i visited was to set my eyes on the Glossy Blacks and Powerful Owls, but had no luck this time.
I would say that they have been bullied out by the other species. Particularly these guys as they do tend be quiet the bully.
And we all know our Glossies are rather timid and shy.
Hopefully with my next visit and the help of a lovely local lady that has offered to show me around, i’ll come back with what i set out for.
So watch this space 😉

I Love It when people reach out to me and ask if they can use my images for reference for their art.
This is the 4th time someone has reached out to me now.
It brings me so much joy seeing their creations come to life through another format.
And the journey of the process that they share.
I recently discovered and felt so honoured that he reached out and asked if he could use one of my images for reference for a commission piece he had been asked to do for a friend.
And was even more thrilled when I found out it was one of my Yellow-tailed Black C**katoo images.
You captured it so beautifully Mal. I can only imagine how wrapped your friend is to hang one of your works on their wall.
Hopefully i get to see more of these in the future.
If you ever have anything in mind for an image in future i have thousands i haven’t shared.
Always happy for you to use them 💛🖤

Do yourself a favour and check out Mal’s page, and if you’re ever interested in one of his works or a commission piece he’s always happy to work with you 🖼️

If there are any other creatives out there wanting to do the same, reach out. Im always happy to share them with you. All i ask is if you share with me and if your happy for me to share i’ll credit you and if you share you do the same also.
Nothing more ❤️

Just a Dirty Bird taking a shower.

But yet nothing, no nothing can wash that stench away.

Im sure if you spent your days wading around in the “bog of eternal stench” for food, you’d eternally be stinky too.
They sure do have a love for stinky places, and have become an icon here in Australia. Well known as the Bin Chicken.
Dubbed this due to their love of scavenging through bins.
But their natural food source was never this, it actually is mud flats (stinky), ponds (stinky) swamps (stinky), marshlands (stinky) where they will eat both terrestrial and aquatic vertebrate.
But its believed since the inland droughts they have migrated towards the coastlines where they have colonised in urban areas and discovered that our waste was another good food source.
Often seen scavenging through bins (stinky) or dumps (stinky) looking for food, hence the name Bin Chicken or Dump Chook.

Regardless if their reputation, they really are a unique and beautiful bird.
Their tail feathers are one of my favourite. And watching flocks of them thermal together way up in the sky is really quiet beautiful to watch but although seldomly seen.

A little something i’ve picked up in my years of bird watching and photography.
Seeing the beauty in all things while observing and realising theres more to them than we realise.
