Recently I was sent up the mountains to photograph the Treasure/ Anderson family droving their cattle to the Dargo High Plains. I packed my swag and took off on the 6 hour drive. My instructions from Lyric Anderson were to follow the road from Dargo and when the cow manure stops, you’ve gone past us.
Coming around a bend in the road to see a large mob of Hereford and Black Baldy cattle, about 8 dogs and 6 or so horses with their riders was the most spectacular sight!
We had a lot of fun that afternoon shooting pics. I found the best way to get the family to laugh was to make my horse sounds- usually made to prick horses ears, Hugh particularly found it hilarious!
In the evening we sat by the campfire as the kids played guitar and sang a bunch of my fav Chris Stapleton songs. A thick fog came in which made the scene look so beautiful. I feel really grateful I got to to be a part of this special experience.
By 5:15 the following morning the camp was alive again, horses were being tacked up and the team were on the road again within the hour.
The cattle were eager to get going, starting at a trot in the cool morning. As the day warmed the slowed to a more peaceful pace.
By mid morning I left them to it and headed home over Hotham with a strained trigger finger from so many clicks. Best shoot…!!
