Spring, and the Artist's Call turns homeward. For September, Project Dogalogue is seeking the dogs this country made its own:

THE AUSTRALIAN KELPIE, bred for work and built for distanceοΏ½THE AUSTRALIAN CATTLE DOG, blue and red bothοΏ½THE AUSTRALIAN SILKY TERRIER, small in size and the hardest of the three to findοΏ½THE GREAT ADAPTERS: dogs on three legs, dogs on wheels, dogs who don't see or hear the world the way most do. Any breed, any mix.

Purebred or mixed, all of them are welcome: Project Dogalogue is a record of the dogs of this country as they actually are.

Kelpie, Cattle Dog, Silky or a Great Adapter? I'd love them in Dogalogue. Every dog photographed takes their place in the collection's permanent digital archive, a lasting record of the dogs of Australia. Dogs chosen from the call also have their $98 participation fee returned in full as additional credit towards their artwork.

And the Spring Appeal is running through to the end of November: every participation fee is donated in full to a rescue connected to your dog.

Some dogs were built for exactly this weather.

While many of us are huddled up indoors, the snow dogs are finally in their element. So for the Artist Call this August, in the depths of an Australian winter, Project Dogalogue is seeking the dogs of the snow:

THE SIBERIAN HUSKY

THE SAMOYED

THE FINNISH SPITZ, one of the rarer dogs in the country: just 22 registered here in eight years.

WHITE DOGS: snow white through cream to ivory, every shade. Any breed, any mix.

There's more to tell about each through the month, including which breed is officially the whitest of them all.

Husky, Samoyed, Finnish Spitz or snowy something? I'd love them in the Dogalogue. Every dog photographed takes their place in the collection's permanent digital archive, a lasting record of the dogs of Australia. Dogs chosen from the call also have their $98 participation fee returned in full as additional credit towards their artwork.

Artist Call for July: seeking the Boston Terrier. 🐾

Each month, the Artist Call names the dogs I'd most love to photograph next for the Project Dogalogue collection. July brings Independence Day, so it felt like the month for one of America's own.

If that's your dog, a Boston or a Boston-cross, I'd love them in the Dogalogue.

Dogs chosen from the call have their $98 participation fee returned in full as additional credit: $348 all up towards the artwork from their session.And through July and August, every participation fee is donated to a rescue connected to your dog.

Swipe through for a few things you might not know about this dapper little gentleman (every Boston Terrier alive traces back to a single dog called Judge).

Which brings me to my real question, Boston parents: where does yours break the mould? They're called the American Gentleman, though I suspect the manners aren't universal. Each month, the Artist Call names the dogs I'd most love to photograph next for the Project Dogalogue collection. July brings Bastille Day, so it felt like the month for one of France's most beloved dogs.

Introducing The Artist's Call: a new monthly tradition for Project Dogalogue.

Each month, I'll name the dogs the collection needs next. The much-loved breeds still missing, the rare ones, and sometimes something else entirely.

July's call celebrates France and America, with Bastille Day and Independence Day both on the calendar. So, in honour of both nations, our first call features dogs originating there:

THE FRENCH BULLDOG

THE BOSTON TERRIER

THE PORCELAINE, France's rarest gift to Australia: just 3 registered here in eight years

REMARKABLE COATS: merle, brindle, dapple, spot and the salon masterpieces. Any breed, any mix.

It's been a while. But the caravan is home, and so are we.

Thirty months of full-time travel, visiting almost every corner of Australia.

Now the rhythm flips: home for long stretches, with travel in seasons. The studio door is properly open, and Project Dogalogue is back at the top of my list.

Somewhere between all the galleries and museums we wandered through on the road, this project grew bigger in my head. More on that another time.

A refresher, since I've been the quiet one: Project Dogalogue is my long-term project to photograph every dog breed in Australia, and the wonderful variety within them. Every breed, every age, every story. Mixes very much included. And to mark the project's return, for the rest of this winter each participant's session fee is donated to a rescue connected to their dog's breed.

And something new begins. Each month I'll be putting out The Artist's Call: dogs I most want to photograph next in the Project. The first call, for July, goes out this Sunday, and includes a couple of Australia's rarest dog breeds.

Yesterday I joined Always Adelaide (FIVEAA) with Angie McBride and Michael Keelan for a warm, engaging conversation about Dog Tales of Australia and the fundraising behind it for Assistance Dogs Australia

We spoke about celebrating all kinds of dogs, from much-loved family companions to working and assistance dogs, and how photographing them around Australia's diverse landscapes helps support a charity doing truly life-changing work.

Thank you so much, Angie and Michael, for having me on and for giving me the opportunity to share a project I remain so excited and passionate about, even after two years!
