I was lucky enough to photograph an opening event for an amazing group of women who have kickstarted rebuilding the village of Geurie 💛
In the news 🗞️ 🌟… & journalist Dallas Parkes.
Part of the article is extracted here:
“The Buckenbah Collective hosted a Community Gathering and Barbecue in Geurie last night (18 December), as another small step towards its long-term vision to build the economy in the rural village.
Beginning a little more than two years ago with co-directors Claire Booth and Eliza Whitely, the Buckenbah Collective now features Claire and Libby Wilson as co-directors after Eliza pursued a goal to set up an optometry business in Dubbo.
In June 2022, Claire and Eliza purchased 55 Buckenbah St, between the petrol station and the pub in Geurie from the Foley family.
Claire and Libby have now also purchased the car yard next door.
Three businesses, Terre Rogue Fine Food, The Aviary Cafe Geurie and Jacinta Haycock Art Gallery and Studio, rent their spaces and operate at 55 Buckenbah St.
Sausages, bags of popcorn and face-painting were enjoyed by all.
Geurie community members had a chance to grab a free snag and cold drink and then check out the businesses.
• What’s next? •
Providing wheelchair ♿️ access to all parts of the current building is the next urgent goal.
