Three days out from Billy's maternity session, my phone buzzed

"Sorry, I'll have to cancel. Baby is here!"

I read it twice

Absolutely not. We're not cancelling. We're just changing the plan!

Billy is my little girl's daycare teacher. She's the one who gets the cuddles at drop off, the one my girl talks about at dinner. Kind, patient, immeasurably caring, and not just with my kid. With all of them

A beautiful mutual friend had gifted her that session. A little something for the last stretch of the wait

Except the wait was over

So we swapped the bump for the baby

And Isla… Isla was not impressed

Grumpy from the moment she walked in. Only wanted mumma, would not stay asleep long enough to be put down anywhere, no matter how gently we tried

So we didn't fight it. We stayed close. We let her be held

And somewhere in the middle of all that squirming and protesting, the sweetest photos happened anyway

Isla, don't ever lose that fiery attitude you already have

The moment Lara messaged me with their news, I actually squealed out loud!

Two years ago, I stood behind the camera and watched Lara and Darcie marry each other at Coffs Harbour. Last week, I stood behind the camera again. This time for their maternity session, after they made the drive all the way from Tamworth just to see me

Some clients become more than clients. Lara and Darcie are two of them

We spent the whole afternoon catching up, laughing and being ridiculous together, and somehow still managed to capture some seriously beautiful photos

These two are the real deal. They work so hard for everything they have, and I could not be more proud of them

I have lost count of how many times I have photographed this family now

It started with Bianca, pregnant with Levi. Since then I have watched them grow through session after session, each one a little different from the last.

This time, there are four of them. A new baby girl, Alice. A big brother by her side, already so proud.

Some families become part of your own story too. This one has!

It wasn't that long ago they could fit in your hands

Tiny fingers that couldn't even wrap around your pinky

Then you blinked, and they learned to crawl

Blinked again, and they were running, kicking a ball, talking your ear off

Blink again, and here we are!

Next year it's big school. A whole new uniform, a whole new nervous first day, a whole new chapter starting

But before all that, there's this moment. The one in between. The one worth stopping for

The Barn on a November afternoon has this warm, golden light that makes the whole space feel like it was made for exactly this. Santa is settled in before you even arrive, genuinely in no rush, with all the time in the world for your family 🤍

Your little one walks through the door, spots him, and everything on their face in that exact second is the whole reason I do this job

There are no queues, no noise, no forty minute wait with a toddler who is rapidly losing their mind. Just 15 private minutes that belong entirely to your family, three hand edited images delivered within two weeks, and one very excited kid with a surprise in their hands on the way home.

Santa Sessions 2026 are officially open. 1st of November at The Barn in Dungog. $150 per session and spots are limited.

She just wanted her baby out.

That's what Paula told me when she arrived. She was sore, she was done, she was over it and honestly, I loved her for saying it out loud. Because there's something so real, so beautifully human about a woman in her final weeks who isn't pretending it's easy 🤍

But then I put her in front of my camera, and I watched something shift.

She stood there, hand on her bump, and I saw it. The quiet strength that she couldn't feel herself. The softness. The readiness. A woman who is already a mother in every way that counts, just waiting for the moment she gets to meet the little one she's been growing, protecting, and loving for the last nine months.

Paula, you were breathtaking. And that baby of yours? They are so lucky to be coming home to you!

There's a version of you that exists right now and only right now.

The one who rests her hand on her belly without realising. The one who catches herself in the mirror and pauses. The one who is tired and full of love and a little bit nervous and so close to meeting them.
