It’s funny how the photos we treasure most aren’t always the perfectly posed ones…

They’re the ones that remind us who was there!

The grandparents, the cousins, the little ones who refuse to sit still for more than five seconds 😅

Because one day these kids won’t be this little anymore, and these moments won’t feel quite so ordinary

And somehow, those always end up being the moments we miss the most 🤎

When people think of weddings, they often picture timelines, schedules and traditions

But one of the things I love most about elopements is that they can be whatever you want them to be!

You don’t have to follow someone else’s idea of what a wedding day should look like

You can wear the dress…

Or not!!

Wear the boots, bring the dog, climb the mountain, watch the sunrise, book a cabin. Invite two people… invite twenty!

At the end of the day, the best celebrations are the ones that actually feel like you

The kind where you’re too busy soaking it all in to worry about whether you’re doing it “right”

Last Saturday we celebrated my nephews turning one and three

There was sand in shoes, cake, sunshine, and plenty of running around at the harbour. Exactly the way a kid's birthday should be!!

It's funny how quickly the years seem to pass. One minute they're tiny newborns, and the next they're running around with big personalities and even bigger smiles 😁

Feeling pretty lucky to be their Aunty and to have a camera nearby to capture these little moments along the way…

I took these in Paris after spotting a young girl having her portrait drawn by a street artist 🎨

I asked her Mum if she minded me taking a few photos, and thankfully she said yes!!

There was just something about the whole scene that stopped me in my tracks!

Maybe it was the concentration on her face. Maybe it was watching someone create something from nothing.�Or, maybe it was knowing she was about to see herself through someone else's eyes!

I've always loved that moment 😍

Not just in art, but in photography too! The moment someone sees the finished piece for the first time
�The smile, the surprise, the emotion. The memories that come rushing back

Because sometimes it's not really about the photo, the sketch, or the artwork at all…

It's about feeling seen

And I think that's what drew me to this moment in the first place 🤎

I think one of my favourite things about maternity sessions is watching the excitement through the eyes of an older sibling 🤩

The baby might still be months away, but somehow they already seem to understand that something special is happening!

The little cuddles, the questions, the constant checking in on Mum

Lately, I've been thinking about how much my expectations of photography have changed over the years…

When I first picked up a camera, I thought being a good photographer meant knowing all the right poses. Knowing exactly where people should stand, where to put their hands, and how to create the "perfect" image

The longer I've been doing this, the more I've realised photography isn't always about directing every little detail. Sometimes it's about noticing

Noticing the way two people look at each other, the way someone reaches for a hand without thinking. The little moments happening in between everything else

Maybe that's why some of my favourite images are the ones that weren't planned at all!!

The ones that simply happened, and I was lucky enough to be there when they did 🤎

I've mentioned it briefly before, but in August I'll be heading off to Port Douglas for another photography retreat, and honestly, now that it's getting closer, I'm so bloody excited!! 🤩

The last retreat completely changed the direction of my business!

It pushed me creatively, challenged me, introduced me to some incredible people, and somewhere along the way, Barefoot Ember started becoming what it is today

So it's funny, because while I'm excited about the destination, that's not really what I'm looking forward to most...

It's everything I'll learn, create, experience, and bring home with me 🤎
