Rx- Class Steam Locomotive No:201

Introduced in the late 1800s, Rx class engines were Once the backbone of South Australia’s broad-gauge mainline services. By 1916, 84 locomotives were in operation, hauling both passengers and freight.

As more powerful engines arrived in the 1920s, the Rx class shifted to branch lines, suburban routes, and shunting duties. Many remained in service until the end of regular steam operations in the mid-1960s.

This locomotive was retired in September 1967, stored at Tailem Bend, and later put on display here as a playground feature-preserving its legacy for future generations.
