After many months of my camera remaining in its bag (ahh the realities of a full time job, health issues and home projects)… I’ve started bringing my camera on walks and trips again. It’s a joy to take photos of clouds and birds and light. Sometimes I have wins, sometimes I don’t (let’s be honest).

But hey, I never want photography sessions to be purely motivated by achievement. It should be a release of creativity, no matter the outcome.

Hello!! Whitney is my name incase we haven’t met. Here are a few unusual things about me:

- I’ve walked 64km in one day from sunrise to sunset.

- I’m in the process of becoming a plant mum. (Not sure how many plants it takes to get there, but I have a number in my care)

- I love working on macrame projects

- I eat the same homemade muesli almost every day for breakfast. I’ve taken it to mountain tops, creeks, car drives, work, beaches. It’s just a good time.

- Oh and I really enjoy shooting things, mostly little people (normal sized people in the distance which gives an environment context).😅

Sometimes while driving I glimpse a moment that I wish I could have caught on camera. Tonight I embraced the perk of being a passenger on the way home from a shoot.

Sometimes I have the urge to shoot something, without a specific subject or idea in mind...

So tonight I went outside and instantly noticed the kitchen light casting a shadow on the fence. Hello self portrait.

Then I noticed the blue light upstairs where my husband sat, so I gave him a call and captured him saying hello.

A classic example of how I like to take photos vs how most other people take photos. Foreground vs No foreground.

I try to use something in the area to enhance the subject. Eg laying down and shooting through the boardwalk slats.

Some argue it hides the beautiful landscape, I argue it creates a unique art piece from an already magnificent view.

Good old creative expression!
