I look past checklists and itineraries to find the moments that stay with you forever. Videos that will probably not make you laugh.

I know not everyone has the privelage of time and money to travel. But I do think a lot more people are capable of it than they realize.

The hardest part of this entire trip for me wasn’t the flights, the logistics, being away from home. Nothing like that.

It was just deciding to go. Everything else came after.

So, what’s stopping you from seeing the world?

Before the spreadsheet super users come for me, I’m not anti-planning! I will book accommodation ahead of time. I research places. I save recommendations. But I do think there’s a point where travel can become so optimized that there’s no room left for surprise.

Some of my favourite moments travelling always happen because I changed plans, got invited somewhere, wandered into the wrong place, or just didn’t know what i was going to do next.

I think the magic usually lives in those little gaps. But! I’m open to hearing the opposite side of things!

Are you a planner or more go with the flow?

Without a doubt, “Bula” is my favourite thing about Fiji so far. I love that you literally hear it everywhere. From strangers walking down the street to bus drivers to shopkeepers. Even tourists say it to one another.

It feels like more than a greeting. Almost like it’s a way of life. Fijians, is that true? And does it get exhausting have such a positive approach to people and life all the time?

BULA! 🇫🇯

There’s nothing quite like starting your morning with a beautiful kayak out in the reef and coming upon some sharks. LOL no thank you.

The South Pacific is one of the least convenient places I’ve ever travelled. Transportation is expensive and experiences frequent delays. WiFi is spotty. Things just take longer and plans seem to change all the time.

But honestly? I kind of think that’s part of why I love it so much. Because if convenience was the only thing that mattered, we’d never leave home.

The South Pacific has been making me question whether convenience is always the thing we should be aiming for.

What do you think?

Yesterday I hitched my first ride! Not because I was stranded, or because I wanted to prove a point. But because that’s just how a lot of people get around in parts of Fiji, and the bus was taking too long to arrive. (And it was completely safe, and came very recommended by the locals 😊)

One of my favourite things about travel is realizing that things I think of as normal aren’t actually universal. The way people move around, or interact with strangers, build trust, and help each other can look completely different depending on where you are.

I’m not saying every place is the same or every situation is safe. But I am saying travel has a funny way of making you question assumptions you didn’t even realize you had.

I was always nervous to hitchhike, but in a country where hitchhiking is the norm, it felt completely safe!

I think one of the biggest surprises for me in Fiji so far has been seeing how incredibly diverse the landscapes are.

The Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park became Fiji’s first national park in 1989 and contains some dunes that reach up to 60 metres high.

It’s also an important archaeological site, with evidence of human settlement dating back thousands of years.

Definitely not what you think of first when you think of Fiji, which is exactly why I wanted to see it!

Australia is definitely calling me back. I feel like I only got to see a slice of the country in my four weeks there. So whether I come back in 2026 or 2027, I’d love to get some insight.

If you had 2–3 months in Australia, would you pick a base, rent a place for a few weeks/month, and do day/weekend trips? Slow travel between a few regions? Road trip the whole thing?

As someone without a driver’s licence, I feel like the way I can travel is somewhat limited. But also, I’m open to innovative approaches!

Australians, what’s the move?
