One of the best things about being a portrait photographer is the absolutely gorgeous, awesome clients you get to work with. Seriously, you guys all make my work so much fun.

But having clients that you live also sucks. Really sucks, at times!!

Watch the reel to find out why.

This is Chloe, and this was one of the first times I'd made a garment on someone on the spot in the studio, just by draping and pinning... way, way before I was offering Frocktober shoots.

The second pic is Chloe now, from a Frocktober shoot where I made a full dress for her. I even had to sew her into it to get just the right drape across the front of the .

You can see how it all came together over on YouTube. I'll pop the link into the first comment below.

Word of the week: Philocaly

Philocaly (n), from the Greek philos (love... the same as our suffix "phile" as in "bibliophile" meaning someone who loves books) plus kallos (beauty -- which is where we get the start of the word "calligraphy" meaning beautiful writing).

While the word "philocaly" can mean a love of any and all beauty, I like that it has now come to have a sense of a love of beauty found in small or mundane things.

Noticing the beauty in small things is such an easy way to bring joy to your day, so I hope you take a moment today to appreciate the way the sunlight captures the steam rising from your morning cup of tea, or the beautiful colour palette on a fallen leaf, or the way your child's eyelashes curl upwards in the most graceful arc, or the sound your puppy makes as he waits excitedly for a walk with you...

The best thing about philocaly is that it requires almost no effort, and definitely doesn't cost a cent. And the more you practice it easier it becomes.

I think I might just add "philocalist" to my profile. What do you reckon?

Bec chose a royal purple colour and a simple straight neckline for her .

From last year's campaign in support of and -- all about supporting research into ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer can affect anyone with ovaries, and today four people will be diagnosed -- most of them in the late stages of the disease with a poor prognosis.

And that's a stat that hasn't budged much over the years.

Why?
Mostly because there is no early detection test for ovarian cancer (yet!) and the symptoms are often easily written off as something more common and benign -- which means that a correct diagnosis often comes quite late in the picture.

The Ovarian Cancer Research Foundation is working hard to change that. They fund vital research into creating an early detection and/or screening test for ovarian cancer, as well as work that will help improve treatments and outcomes for women across the country and around the world.

Join me for a Frocktober shoot and help raise much-needed funding for their work.

Booking links are in all the usual places, including the SHOP tab on my website. I'll leave a link in the first comment.

FROCKTOBER SHOOTS are BOOKING NOW! 👗

Booking link if the first comment.

Yep, I know. It's only August.

But these Frocktober sessions are awesome, and I'd love you to experience one for yourself.

After you've finished in hair and makeup, I make a dress on you, on the spot right here in the studio, just by draping and pinning and clipping everything in place. We photograph you looking all sorts of gorgeous in that "mock frock" and then, just because I can't help myself, we do a full "normal" shoot off the back of it.

So you get a custom made "gown", plus you can be photographed in your own wardrobe too, making these sessions perfect for updating your personal brand, or your work portraits... or making some "just because" photos that will one day become family heirlooms.

AND $200 from every booking goes straight to the to help fund research into an early detection test for ovarian cancer, which remains one of the most lethal of all gynaecological cancers.

There are only 31 Frocktober Sessions available this year, and they opened to my waiting list over a week ago now, so quite a few have gone already.

You can book via my websit. Link is to n the first comment.😊

I made something for you. Want it?

Free guide: The Art of Capturing Childhood available now.

It has seven simple ways to improve your photos, that are all so easy to implement. No technical skill required. I hope it helps you create photos of your kids that you (and they) will cherish for decades to come.

Link is in the first comment for where you can grab a copy.

Cheers.
