I might be biased… but I think winter is the best season for family photos 🤍

Everyone waits for spring.

But winter quietly gives us everything we want in a family session.

The light is soft and flattering.

The earlier sunsets mean little ones don’t have to stay up past bedtime.

The cooler weather makes running, cuddling and playing together so much more comfortable.

And those cosy knits, earthy tones and layered outfits? They never go out of style.

But my favourite part isn’t the season.

It’s that families naturally gravitate towards one another.

Hands are held a little tighter.
Cuddles last a little longer.
And the connection in your images feels effortless.

If you’ve been waiting for the “perfect” time to update your family photos, this might just be it.

✨ Winter family sessions are now booking. I’d love to help you preserve this chapter before another season passes.

Let me clear a few things up.

There are some things I hear over and over again from mums before they book. Worries that feel very real and very reasonable, but that I want to gently set straight.

Swipe through. And if any of these have been sitting in the back of your mind, I hope this helps.

My inbox is always open if you want to talk through anything else.

Three out of four.

That’s how many babies from this family I’ve had the privilege of photographing as newborns. I didn’t get the eldest, but I’ve been there for every one since. And getting to watch this family grow, session by session, baby by baby, is one of those things that reminds me exactly why I do this.

Sibling moments are some of my absolute favourites to capture. There is something about the way a child looks at a brand new baby that you simply cannot direct or recreate. It either happens or it doesn’t. And when it does, it stops you in your tracks.

I know a lot of mums worry about this before they come in. Especially when there’s a toddler involved. Will they sit still? Will they cooperate? Will they even want to be near the baby?

In my experience, almost always yes. It might take a few minutes. There might be some gentle coaxing. But children are naturally drawn to something this small and this new, and what usually comes out the other side of that curiosity is something genuinely beautiful.

You just have to give them a little time. And I always do.

If you’re expecting and you’re wondering how your older children will go on the day, please don’t let that be the thing that holds you back. It’s my job to work with your whole family, whatever they bring on the day.

If I had a dollar for every time I heard this before a session, I’d have a lot of dollars.

And I get it completely. At home, your baby sleeps. A lot. So it makes sense that you’d walk in, pop them down, take a few photos and be home in time for the next feed.

Here’s the reality.

Newborn sessions with me typically run between two and four hours. Not because anything is going wrong, but because everything is going right.

Your baby needs to be fed, settled and comfortable before I can even begin to move them into a pose. Then there’s the wrapping, the positioning, the warming of the studio, the settling in between setups. If they wake up, we stop. If they need a feed, we stop. If they just need a moment, we stop.

Because the only clock in my studio is your baby’s.

I work entirely at their pace. There is no rushing, no pushing through, no “let’s just get this shot.” Every single image in a newborn gallery is the result of patience, experience and knowing exactly how to read a baby who can’t tell you what they need.

If you’re expecting and you’d love to know more about what a session with me actually looks like, send me a message through the link in my bio. I’d love to hear from you. ❤️

I hear this almost every week. ‘My husband’s not really a photo person.’ And honestly? Neither are most of the dads who walk through my door. They come because she asked them to. They stand a little stiff at the start. They’re not sure what to do with their hands.

And then something happens, usually around the time I put that tiny baby into their arms, and the whole session changes. I show them the back of the camera and they start to fall in love with their photos. By the time we are finished the ordering appointment they are saying how much they love the photos.

Thats one of the best parts of my job!

Practising what I preach and existing in memories with my babies ❤️

I skipped my annual mother’s day photos this year because…. life. I had every reason under the sun why I didn’t have time for photos. We had nothing to wear, my hair wasn’t done, I couldn’t be bothered to do my makeup, we are so busy right now I will wait until sport commitments stop..

Then I realised something.

Those are the exact reasons most mums tell me they keep putting photos off too.

There will always be a reason to wait. A busier season. A few extra kilos to lose. A better time. A new outfit. More money. Less chaos.

But our children aren’t waiting.

They’re growing, changing, and becoming more independent right in front of us.

So I put on whatever I could find, did a quick swipe of makeup, and got in the frame.

Because one day these photos won’t remind my children of what I looked like. They’ll remind them that I was there. Loving them, hugging them, laughing with them, and sharing this season of life together.

And that’s worth so much more than perfect hair, perfect outfits, or perfect timing. ❤️

I’ve been doing this for twelve years and there’s one thing I notice at every single session. Mum walks in and the first thing she says is, ‘Sorry if he’s unsettled’ or ‘She didn’t sleep last night, I hope that’s okay.’ Before I’ve even said hello, she’s already apologising. For her baby. For herself. For taking up space.

Nobody tells you that becoming a mother means the whole world shifts its gaze, and sometimes you shift with it. You stop being the main character in your own story because this tiny person needs you to be everything. And mostly that’s beautiful. But sometimes, in the quiet moments, it’s a lot.

I photograph mums because I know what it feels like to want to be seen in that season. Not instead of your baby. Alongside them. If that’s something you’d love, I’d really love to hear from you.

Winter family photos are so much better than summer family photos 🙈

Okay, maybe that’s controversial...

But hear me out.

✨ Earlier sunsets (hello, happy kids)✨ Softer, more flattering light✨ Beautiful layers and textures✨ No sweating through your outfit before we’ve even started

Most importantly?

Winter naturally brings families closer together.

More cuddles. More connection. More of the moments you’ll actually want to remember.

If you’ve been putting off updating your family photos, winter might just be the perfect time!

✨ Winter session dates are now open. Send me a message for details.
