Winner of the most colourful house I’ve photographed ever! It was lovely to spend the afternoon shooting the lovely home of Marg and Andy - prioritising space for music, their productive garden overlooking the Merri creek and COLOUR. Super team on this one -

Driving around the US I’m always fascinated by the average suburban house and its variations through different states and cities. Similar materials but they always look so different to Australian houses. These photos come from an hour spent wandering in a little pocket of South Bend, Indiana. An *almost* gated community - there’s rules around what can be displayed (US flags always allowed, political signage not so much), the residents will come and say hello to find out why you’re roaming around as an unfamiliar face. The monotony of housing is like a visual meditation, and the green so different to an Australian green under our harsh sun.

El Mercado de Tepoztlan - a vibrant hub in the middle of this small magical town (one of many assigned Pueblos Magicos in Mexico). Designed by Ramírez Suárez Arquitectos and Laboratorio de Arquitectura . Terracotta tiles, brick and steel, multi-level, and large open walkways and stairs. We stocked up on freshly made tortillas, produce and some local market bags.

Photographing homes really satisfies the nosey Nellie in me - I always want to see other people’s inner worlds, where do they like to sit, what do they do here, where’s the good afternoon light fall. So it’s always nice when a home owner really invites you in and makes photos with you! Paul + Tash, and their two daughters were great co-creators in these images of David Noordhoff ‘s Atria House. Recently featured on Habitus Living.

is wandering around Mexico City eating quesadillas whilst I’m at home in Melbourne sick with a cold, watching rain out my window. But this time last year we were wandering around Coyoacán together and I still haven’t gone through all the photos I took whilst we were there!
So please enjoy this little spread of pictures from Coyoacán, Mexico City. The first is the Organillero (organ grinder) that’s a fixture in the main park, he’s still there and took a video of him today, he looks equally unimpressed. The organ has a unique sound and it’s reportedly a dying art, the organs are expensive to fix and it’s harder to make a living playing one. It adds so much vibrancy to the already bustling park life in Mexico, I hope it sticks around a little longer.

I had a great time taking photos at the recent event Power of Community, held at the wonderful little Guildford Public Hall. Wonderful speakers and attendees alike, it was great to hear how they tackle climate concerns and community involvement within their practices. The local CWA tea and lunch was worth the drive alone!

Chasing some dopamine by blasting Robyn’s new album and looking through photos from Mexico last year. The architecture scene there has nailed adaptive reuse and use of local materials and artisans - this is the Museo Textil de Oaxaca by Arquitectos Artesanos. Excellent museum housed in an excellent building, Mexico is the country where I will go out of my way to see every niche museum because they’re always a surprise, and in Oaxaca the pride in their cultural identity is always at the forefront.

Flashback to the best few days at this incredible house in Mexico last year. I’d been dreaming of staying here since seeing it on every architecture and design website over the past 4 years. Designed by and situated in a small village on the edge of a forest outside Mexico City, it was a a perfect few days with friends listening to music, playing cards, and watching the fire from the conversation pit. Some good food and a little mezcal to top it off.
