One of the most magical moments during a night shoot is when the first fog starts to rise across the landscape. Suddenly everything changes, and it feels like you've been transported into another dimension. 🌌✨

These are the moments I live for as a photographer.

Yesterday I got back from four nights of workshops, learning, laughter, and some incredible moments under the stars. And yes, Saturday night was spent under the clouds... but we made the most of it, staying warm indoors and working on our edits. 😊

I'm starting with Kelly's fantastic "dragon fight" image. The two images in the middle were pulled from timelapses captured on Thursday and Friday night, and I'll be sharing those timelapses over the coming days.

A big thank you to everyone who joined us and made it such a memorable few days.

I'm already looking forward to the July workshops. There are still a couple of spots available, so if you've been thinking about joining us for a night under a sky full of stars, now's the time.

This 30-second timelapse from last Saturday’s workshop contains more than 700 images taken over 5 hours beneath a spectacular night sky.

The conditions were about as good as they get, and the Milky Way definitely put on a show. Look at that!

The best part? We’re doing it all again tomorrow night, and the forecast is calling for another clear evening. Fingers crossed the weather gets the memo 🤞

The Milky Way is predictable. The Aurora isn’t.

Most nights, I know exactly where the Milky Way will be and how it will align with the landscape. That’s the beauty of planning and understanding the night sky.

But every now and then, nature throws in a surprise. A burst of Aurora on the horizon adds that little extra touch, turning a familiar scene into something truly special.

Captured on private property near Gundaroo where we hold our under some of the darkest skies in the region.

Only 20 minutes from Canberra, and this is what awaits us.

As the moonlight disappears this weekend, we enter the heart of the June Milky Way season. The Galactic Core will be perfectly positioned, creating the same spectacular view you see in this image.

After the recent rain, the forecast is calling for clear skies and beautifully clean air, some of the best conditions we can hope for.

I've seen this view countless times over the years, but watching someone capture it for the first time never gets old. I can't wait to share that experience again this and next weekend. ✨

You don't even need a camera, you can photograph the night sky with your smartphone, or hire a complete astrophotography camera kit for the workshop.
I'll be running a Milky Way Photography Workshop next Saturday, and I have just a couple of spots remaining. The weather forecast is looking promising too!
